Fátima Bosch Fernández, Miss Mexico, did not quit Miss Universe 2025. She was publicly confronted at a pre-pageant event in Thailand, prompting her to leave the room while other contestants followed in solidarity. The Miss Universe Organization condemned the conduct, Nawat Itsaragrisil apologized, and Bosch remained in the competition long enough to win the title on November 21, 2025.
Fátima Bosch Fernández, Miss Mexico, was not disqualified or expelled from Miss Universe 2025. Before the final, Thai pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil publicly confronted her at a pre-pageant event in Thailand over her alleged failure to take part in promotional activities. Bosch left the room, several contestants followed her in solidarity, and the Miss Universe Organization condemned Nawat’s conduct. Bosch stayed in the competition—and won Miss Universe 2025 on November 21.
The story contains two separate controversies. The first is the documented confrontation and contestant walkout. The second is a later dispute over the judging process, after former judge Omar Harfouch alleged irregularities. Miss Universe denied those allegations, and the available record does not independently establish that Bosch’s victory was rigged.
What happened to Miss Mexico?
The confrontation took place on November 4, 2025, during a sash-related Miss Universe event in Thailand. Nawat Itsaragrisil, who was associated with the Thai host operation and Miss Universe Thailand, criticized Bosch in front of the other contestants.

The dispute centered on promotional duties. Nawat accused Bosch of not participating sufficiently in activities connected with promoting Thailand. Reports described him asking Bosch to stand and challenging her about promotional content. When she tried to respond, he told her to remain quiet or polite. He then called for security, according to accounts of the incident.
The most widely circulated reports said Nawat called Bosch a word commonly rendered in English as dumb or dumb head. Nawat later apologized for the confrontation but disputed that exact wording, saying he had used the English word damage instead. The responsible summary is therefore that Bosch was publicly berated and that the precise disputed word became part of the controversy; the exact insult should not be presented as settled fact.
Bosch left the room after the exchange. Other contestants followed her, including Victoria Kjær Theilvig, Miss Universe 2024 of Denmark. The walkout was understood as a protest against the way Bosch had been treated, not as a mass withdrawal from the pageant.
Why did the contestants walk out?
The contestants’ response was about the public treatment of Bosch. She had been singled out and criticized in front of the group, and the exchange escalated when she tried to answer and security was summoned. Walking out signaled solidarity and rejection of the confrontation.

The incident also drew attention because Miss Universe presents itself as a platform for women’s empowerment, inclusion, leadership, respect, and personal voice. The public exchange created an obvious tension between those stated values and the behavior shown at the event. That is an editorial conclusion based on the organization’s published mission and the documented incident—not a finding that Miss Universe violated a specific law or formal rule.
Did Fátima Bosch quit Miss Universe?
No. Bosch said she would remain in the competition and continue representing Mexico. She also said that she loved Thailand and its people and that nobody could silence her voice.
That clarification mattered because online discussion initially created uncertainty about whether she had withdrawn after the confrontation. The walkout did not mean Bosch had abandoned the pageant, and the contestants who followed her did not collectively leave the competition.
How did the Miss Universe Organization respond?
The Miss Universe Organization said the incident would be investigated and reaffirmed its commitment to the contestants’ respect, dignity, and safety. MUO president Raúl Rocha Cantú publicly condemned Nawat’s treatment of Bosch, describing it as unacceptable and characterizing the episode as public aggression and humiliation.

MUO also restricted Nawat’s role in official Miss Universe activities during the immediate fallout. Nawat later apologized to the contestants. His apology addressed the confrontation, but it did not end the controversy: the incident had already spread widely, and the disagreement over the exact wording continued alongside the video and news coverage.
These developments should be kept distinct. The organization’s condemnation is an official response; it is not proof that every detail in every account was accurate. Likewise, Nawat’s dispute over one word does not erase the broader, observable confrontation.
What happened at the Miss Universe 2025 final?
Fátima Bosch won Miss Universe 2025 at the final in Thailand on November 21. The official Miss Universe website subsequently listed her as Miss Universe 2025, and reporting by the Associated Press and BBC described her victory in the context of the earlier confrontation and walkout.
Her win changed the public narrative. Some coverage presented it as a dramatic reversal: Bosch had been publicly challenged by a pageant organizer, refused to be silenced, remained in the contest, and ultimately took the title. Other commentary questioned whether the attention surrounding the dispute affected perceptions of the result.

That speculation is not evidence that the final was manipulated. Bosch’s victory and the controversy surrounding the pageant are facts that can be reported together, but one does not prove the other.
Were the Miss Universe results rigged?
A separate judging controversy emerged shortly before and after the final. Omar Harfouch, who had been announced as one of the official judges, withdrew from the panel. He alleged that an unauthorized or separate group had influenced the selection of finalists. After Bosch won, Harfouch intensified his criticism on social media and referred to her as a fake or false winner.
The Miss Universe Organization rejected that characterization in an official statement dated November 18, 2025. MUO said that its Beyond the Crown social-impact program was separate from the competition and from the official judging panel. It denied that an unauthorized jury had selected the finalists and said the established judging procedures remained in effect.
MUO acknowledged Harfouch’s withdrawal and said he was prohibited from using MUO trademarks in connection with the organization. Harfouch made allegations; MUO denied them. Based on the reviewed record, there is no independently established proof that Bosch’s victory was rigged or that the result was manipulated.

Who were the main people involved?
- Fátima Bosch Fernández: Mexico’s representative and the eventual Miss Universe 2025 winner.
- Nawat Itsaragrisil: A Thai pageant executive associated with the host-country operations who confronted Bosch at the pre-pageant event.
- Raúl Rocha Cantú: President of the Miss Universe Organization, who condemned Nawat’s treatment of Bosch.
- Victoria Kjær Theilvig: Miss Universe 2024 from Denmark, who joined the walkout in support of Bosch.
- Omar Harfouch: A judge who withdrew and later alleged irregularities in the finalist-selection process.
- Miss Universe Organization: The organization that responded to the confrontation, addressed the judging allegations, and officially recognized Bosch’s title.
What the controversy does—and does not—prove
The pre-pageant confrontation is the clearest part of the story. Bosch was publicly singled out over alleged promotional duties, attempted to respond, left the event, and received visible support from other contestants. MUO condemned the conduct, and Nawat apologized.
The judging allegations are different. They concern the structure and integrity of the competition, not whether the confrontation occurred. Harfouch’s accusations deserve attribution as accusations, while MUO’s response should be reported as a denial. Neither side’s statement, by itself, independently proves the underlying claim.
It is also important not to turn the timing of Bosch’s win into proof of favoritism. The win occurred after the confrontation and became part of the controversy’s public meaning, but the available sources do not establish that publicity changed the judging or that the result was predetermined.
Finally, Bosch should not be described as disqualified, expelled, permanently removed, or forced out. The documented outcome was the opposite: she continued to represent Mexico and won the title.

Miss Mexico was publicly confronted by Nawat Itsaragrisil at a Miss Universe 2025 event in Thailand over alleged promotional obligations. When the exchange escalated, Bosch left and other contestants followed her. MUO condemned Nawat’s behavior, and he apologized. Bosch remained in the pageant and won the crown on November 21.
A later dispute over judging involved allegations by former judge Omar Harfouch and a denial from MUO. Those allegations should not be reported as proof that the competition was rigged.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Fátima Bosch did not quit Miss Universe or lose her title. She was publicly berated before the final, contestants walked out in solidarity, MUO condemned the conduct, and Bosch went on to win Miss Universe 2025. Separate claims that the judging was manipulated remain allegations denied by MUO, not established facts.
