The Miniot Wheel 2 is a distinctive vertical turntable built around track scanning and unusual playback controls. Its design may appeal to listeners who want a record player that doubles as a visual centerpiece, but the available evidence does not establish that it sounds better than a conventional deck—or confirm its current price, order status, or delivery time. Its value depends on how much you want its form and operation, and whether Miniot can currently supply the model and support it.
What makes the Miniot Wheel 2 different?
Wheel 2 is Miniot’s redesigned successor to its original Wheel. In an April 2022 update, the company said the earlier design had been difficult to streamline and that shipping damage had delayed production. Miniot described Wheel 2 as more robust and easier to produce, with a lower-profile design, track scanning before playback, and a display that shows the stylus position. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent test results. Miniot’s April 2022 update also says the player supports records from 7 to 12 inches and has a revised drive system intended to be more forgiving of records that are not in perfect condition.
The vertical format is the clearest reason to consider it. It makes the record and player part of the room’s display rather than hiding the turntable on a conventional horizontal shelf. That is a matter of taste and placement, not evidence that vertical playback improves sound.
How its track and speed features are supposed to work
Miniot says Wheel 2 scans a record before playback and uses data about the tonearm, stylus, and drive position to adjust rotational speed as the stylus crosses an off-center record. The company calls this “Constant track speed” and says it helps keep records in tune. Miniot’s explanation of Constant track speed describes the intended mechanism, but the available sources provide no independent measurements or listening comparison confirming the size of the effect.

That distinction matters: the feature is a specific engineering claim, not a demonstrated guarantee of superior sound. No controlled comparison or independent performance figures for wow and flutter, tracking force, or signal-to-noise ratio are established here.
Is the Wheel 2 worth its price?
The strongest case is for someone who specifically wants a vertical, visually distinctive record player and finds its track scanning and position display appealing. The case is weaker for a buyer whose priorities are the lowest cost, conventional controls, or proven comparative sound performance. The Verge review has been described as “a unique vertical turntable worth waiting for”; a republication also reports reviewer concerns about price and the supplied Audio-Technica cartridge. Price history reinforces the need to check before deciding. Miniot stated an initial retail price of €1,500 in its April 26, 2022 update. On March 5, 2023, the company said new purchases cost €1,999 and shipped within four weeks, while also acknowledging long waits for backers and that the project had proved more complicated than expected. Availability and ownership costs to check
Miniot’s current public product emphasis has moved to Wheel Classic, Wheel 3, and Wheel 3 Black Edition. Its homepage displayed prices of €3,400, €3,400, and €5,300 respectively in the captured listing, and links to Wheel 2 review coverage. That does not prove Wheel 2 has been discontinued or is unavailable. Who should consider it?
- A design-led listener: The vertical presentation is central to the appeal, especially if the player will be visible in the room.
- A buyer who values specialized operation: Track scanning, stylus-position display, and Miniot’s claimed speed adjustment are part of the proposition, though the performance benefit has not been independently established in the sources cited here.
- A buyer who wants predictable, conventional ownership: Confirm current availability, delivery, replacement-part fit, and total cost before committing. If those answers or the vertical format do not suit you, a conventional turntable may be the more straightforward choice.
The evidence does not support calling Wheel 2 the only vertical turntable, ranking it against current alternatives, or claiming that its orientation produces better sound. A meaningful comparison would need current prices and availability, mounting and track-selection preferences, cartridge and stylus serviceability, and independent sound assessments.
