What is supported is the film’s block-based visual design: official Minecraft promotion calls its setting a “strangely blocky world,” and a Wētā FX production account describes building that world digitally. Neither confirms that the alleged imagery shows a practical set made of realistic cubes.
What is confirmed about the alleged leak?
The article matching the headline characterizes the material as alleged, not officially confirmed. The sources reviewed do not independently authenticate it as production footage or establish what the images depict. Its descriptions of apparent textures and set details should therefore be treated as that article’s characterization, not verified evidence about the film’s production.

What official sources say about the film’s look
Minecraft’s official movie promotion describes the setting as a “strangely blocky world” and a “bizarre, blocky wonderland.” Those phrases support the basic visual premise, but “realistic cubes” is the headline’s wording, not a confirmed production description.
How Wētā FX built the block-style world
In an April 25, 2025 production account, befores & afters reported that Wētā FX worked with director Jared Hess to realize the game’s block-style world across the Overworld and Nether. Visual effects supervisor Sheldon Stopsack described why extended views required more than a conventional painted background: “We knew right from the get-go that it wasn’t necessarily something we could approach as traditional matte painting,”

The account says the team built the world digitally from the ground up for extended vistas and details. It identifies a models-team prototype and tool called “Blockz,” which enabled more art direction of the look. The report says Mount Minecraft comprised 3,434,127 individual cubes and approximately 20 million faces. Those figures describe that digital environment; they do not establish how any alleged behind-the-scenes image was made.
What the production account does—and does not—show
The production reporting supports substantial digital world-building, while official promotion confirms the intended blocky aesthetic. The sources do not provide a complete practical-set-versus-CGI breakdown for the alleged material. They do not establish whether a particular leaked-looking scene was a physical set, a reference build, or a finished digital composite, so the imagery cannot be used to prove that the movie’s world was constructed from realistic physical cubes.
