Michael Villella, best known for playing killer Russ Thorn in the 1982 horror film The Slumber Party Massacre, died November 23, 2024, at age 84, according to reports published the following day.

TheWrap and TMZ reported that Villella died after multiple organ failures following a month in hospital, citing his daughter, Chloe Villella. Other contemporaneous coverage said no cause of death had been disclosed, so the cause was not reported consistently.

Chloe Villella’s brief tribute, quoted in coverage, was: “May you rest in peace daddy.”
His signature role in The Slumber Party Massacre
Villella played Russ Thorn, the killer at the center of The Slumber Party Massacre (1982). It was reportedly his onscreen acting debut. Amy Holden Jones directed the film, and Rita Mae Brown wrote it.

Yahoo’s contemporaneous account described the project as originally conceived as a parody before it became a horror movie. That production history offers context for the film’s unusual premise, but it is a characterization from coverage rather than a direct statement from the filmmakers.
