Michael Madsen filed for divorce from DeAnna Madsen in September 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. In a signed statement attached to the petition, he alleged that she contributed to the death of their son Hudson. That was Madsen’s allegation, not a court finding or an independently established fact. Madsen later asked for the filing to be dismissed and died in July 2025; the final court disposition has not been established in the reporting cited here.
Why did Michael Madsen file for divorce?
The Los Angeles Times reported on September 19, 2024, that Madsen filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court after 28 years of marriage. The petition cited “irreconcilable differences.” In an attached signed statement, Madsen said that phrase did not adequately describe the reason for filing.
According to the Times, Madsen said he and DeAnna had been separated since January 2022, shortly after their son Hudson died by suicide on January 25, 2022. That account of the separation is Madsen’s, as reported by the newspaper. Los Angeles Times reporting on the filing
What did Madsen allege in the divorce filing?
In the statement attached to his petition, Madsen wrote: “I believe Respondent drove him to this by her neglect, drinking and alcoholism.” The Los Angeles Times quoted the statement after reporting that it reviewed the filing. It records Madsen’s accusation; the available reporting does not establish that DeAnna caused or contributed to Hudson’s death, and it does not report a court accepting the allegation as fact. What was reported about the August 2024 arrest?
The Times reported that Madsen was arrested in August 2024 in connection with a domestic-violence allegation. The Los Angeles County District Attorney declined to file charges, citing insufficient evidence, according to the newspaper. The Times also reported DeAnna Madsen’s position that she had not broken into the home. Those details do not establish that the arrest was wrongful or resolve the separate allegation in the divorce filing.

The Associated Press reported that Madsen asked for the divorce filing to be dismissed weeks after submitting it. The AP also reported that he died on July 3, 2025, at age 67. Its account does not establish the court’s final disposition of the petition, so it should not be described as either still active or formally dismissed without a court record confirming that outcome.
