His son Brendan said Haley died after a rapid battle with cancer diagnosed only months earlier.
What has been reported about Michael Haley’s death
Fangoria reported Haley’s death on April 8, 2025, reproducing a statement from his son, Brendan. In it, Brendan wrote: “It is with a heavy heart I write that in the early hours of Saturday morning, my dad, Michael Haley, passed away after a very abrupt battle with cancer which had been diagnosed mere months prior.” The cancer wording is the family’s account; the report does not specify a more particular medical cause.
The statement says “Saturday morning” but does not print a calendar date. The timing of Fangoria’s report may suggest April 5, 2025, but that exact date is not independently confirmed in the statement. Brendan also remembered his father as “innately kind with a goofy sense of humor” and “a fearless and unique talent.” Fangoria’s In Memoriam published the statement on April 8, 2025.
Haley’s role in The Maxx
Haley was best known for voicing the title character in The Maxx, the MTV/Liquid Television animated series released in 1995. The 13-episode series adapted the Image comic created by Sam Kieth, according to ComicBook.com’s report.

Haley’s selected screen credits included background appearances in King Kong (1976) and Grease (1978). His voice work also included games such as World of Warcraft and Diablo, as well as the audio series It Listens From the Radio; ComicBook.com reported that he played Crunch Munch in the 2022 episode “Balanced Breakfast.” These are selected credits, not a complete filmography.
Secondary reporting says Haley worked as a broadcast engineer at Southern California PBS station KCET until 2015 while continuing to act in smaller roles. Yahoo Entertainment’s republication of Entertainment Weekly reporting also says he was born in 1957, acted in Southern California as a youth, and declined an opportunity to attend London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Those details do not establish a full birth date.
