How many times was Michael Crichton married?

Suzanne Childs: the third marriage
Biographical sources identify Suzanne Childs as Crichton’s third wife and report that the marriage ended in divorce. The sources do not establish a consistent set of dates, and some accounts spell her first name “Suzanna.” The available record therefore supports her place in the sequence, but not a definitive year-by-year chronology. Anne-Marie Martin: marriage, work and divorce
Crichton met actor and writer Anne-Marie Martin while working on Runaway; accounts differ on whether they met in the early 1980s or in 1984. In its 2008 obituary, The Washington Post quoted Martin as saying, “He appeared to have let work take precedence over family life.” That is Martin’s reported assessment, rather than a neutral finding about their marriage. The same obituary reported that the divorce cost $31 million, including their art collection and 20 horses. That figure belongs to the newspaper’s account; it should not be treated as a legal judgment or a settled measure of Crichton’s net worth. (The Washington Post)
Sherri Alexander: his fifth wife
Crichton later married Sherri Alexander. A 2024 TIME feature describes their dating and hiking in the early 2000s, their marriage, and Alexander’s pregnancy with their son when Crichton died in 2008. What Crichton said about marriage and private life
Crichton’s own comments offer perspective on how he thought about balancing work with family, but they do not provide a complete account of every marriage. In a 1999 Publishers Weekly profile, he described feeling lonely while directing abroad and said: “I realized then that I needed to have a real private life — which, to me, meant a stable marriage and family.” The remark records an aspiration; it does not show that his private life consistently matched it. Does the record reveal a secret scandal?
No specific affair or relationship scandal is substantiated by these biographical and journalistic accounts. What they support is a five-marriage chronology, Crichton’s attributed reflections on ambition and family, Martin’s criticism of his work-life priorities, and a divorce cost reported by The Washington Post.
