What has happened since the announcement
The original announcement described planned release windows, not fixed dates: Original Sin was slated for December 2024 and Resurrection for summer 2025. Original Sin debuted in December 2024. SHOWTIME later reported that production on Resurrection began in New York in January 2025, with Peter Dinklage joining as billionaire venture capitalist Leon Prater. Its current catalog listing gives the second-season premiere date as October 30, 2026; schedules can change, so check the listing for the latest status.
In its February 11, 2025 release, SHOWTIME said the Original Sin premiere drew more than 2.1 million global cross-platform viewers and called it the most-streamed premiere in the network’s history. That figure applies to the premiere and cross-platform viewing, not the season as a whole. The release also covered the start of Resurrection production.

Where to watch and which order to follow
Paramount+’s April 27, 2026 guide describes the story chronology as Dexter: Original Sin, Dexter, Dexter: New Blood, then Dexter: Resurrection. This is chronological story order; viewers who want the franchise’s original release progression can start with Dexter instead. The guide said all four series were available on Paramount+ when it was published, subject to plan qualifications. Catalogs and subscription terms vary by country and can change, so check your local Paramount+ listing and plan. Read Paramount+’s viewing guide.
Why Hall agreed to return
In a 2025 Television Academy interview, Hall described revisiting the character as “such a unique experience to return to and reconsider a character nearly two decades from the pilot episode.” He also recalled how the sequel idea emerged after a conversation with director and executive producer Marcos Siega: “I know this is crazy, but what if that gunshot didn’t actually kill him?” The Television Academy interview provides Hall’s account of the return.

Who is behind the series
Clyde Phillips is identified as showrunner and executive producer for the franchise projects. The official Resurrection catalog lists Hall, Uma Thurman, Jack Alcott, and returning franchise cast members. The series therefore connect the new sequel to the events of New Blood while the prequel revisits Dexter’s earlier life through a younger actor and Hall’s narration.
