Metros Fremantle closed in June 2024 for a two-week renovation, then relaunched on June 15. It was not announced as a permanent shutdown. As of October 8, 2026, Metropolis Fremantle’s official website lists club nights, events and bookings at 58 South Terrace, Fremantle.
Why did Metros Fremantle close?
Metropolis Fremantle, widely known as Metros, temporarily shut its doors for renovations in June 2024. An initial social-media announcement prompted some patrons to wonder whether the closure was permanent. PerthNow reported on June 12 that the venue was undergoing a major transformation; NightOwl Entertainment described the project as an effort to create a “world-class super club.”
The explanation given publicly was renovation and investment in the customer experience. Available reporting does not establish that the closure was caused by insolvency, regulatory action, a sale or a decision to close permanently.
When did the club reopen?
NightOwl Entertainment announced a relaunch for Saturday, June 15, 2024. Nik Thompson, the company’s head of marketing strategy, told PerthNow that Metropolis “has been closed for 2 weeks for renovations and will re-open with a massive launch event on June 15.” A PerthNow follow-up published on June 15 reported that the venue had reopened with a launch event.

What changed in the renovation?
The announced project included new bars, booths, seating, dancefloors, secret rooms and a six-metre aerial installation. PerthNow’s reopening coverage described rebuilt downstairs bars, two new booth-seating areas, a retro room, replaced flooring and a lighting installation. Staff were being trained in a new cocktail menu, and the venue had developed a stage show to accompany its DJs.
Is Metros Fremantle open now?
As of October 8, 2026, the official Metropolis Fremantle website lists Friday and Saturday club nights, upcoming events, bookings and functions at 58 South Terrace, Fremantle. Because event schedules and venue details can change, check the official website for current listings before planning a visit.

How long had Metros been operating?
PerthNow reported in June 2024 that the venue had operated as Metros since 1991. In its renovation announcement that year, NightOwl Entertainment described it as having operated in Fremantle for 32 years.
