Who brought the lawsuit, and what did it allege?
Vanessa LeMaistre filed the lawsuit in October 2024, alleging that Wayne assaulted her in 2016. Those claims were allegations made in the civil case; they should not be presented as facts established by the verdict. The Associated Press reported on the filing on October 30, 2024.
How did Wayne respond?
Wayne denied the allegations. When the lawsuit was filed, his attorney, Lawrence Hinkle II, described them as “a pure shakedown” and “false accusations,” according to the Associated Press. That was the attorney’s position, not a finding by the court or jury.

After the verdict, the Los Angeles Times reported that Wayne said he was “grateful and thankful to God” that he could put the matter behind him. His reaction does not establish what happened in 2016. Read the Los Angeles Times report.
Why is “not liable” different from “not guilty”?
This was a civil lawsuit, in which the question was whether Wayne was legally liable on the claims brought against him. “Not liable” describes the reported civil verdict. It is not a criminal acquittal, and it should not be restated as “not guilty.” Reporting at the time said Wayne had not been criminally charged over these accusations.

The verdict resolves the civil claims tried, but it does not by itself establish that LeMaistre fabricated her allegations. Nor does it establish a broader conclusion about events beyond the claims before the jury.
