Mercado Play is Mercado Livre’s ad-supported streaming service, with a free catalog of movies, series, documentaries, reality shows and children’s programming. The free catalog does not require a monthly subscription, but selected titles may be paid rentals. Mercado Livre lists the service in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Uruguay; availability and the catalog vary by country.
What is Mercado Play?
Mercado Play is an on-demand video service operated by Mercado Libre. Launched in 2023, it combines two models: ad-supported video on demand (AVOD), where viewers watch eligible titles without a subscription, and transactional video on demand (TVOD), where selected titles can be rented for a one-time fee. Mercado Libre says its catalog comes from third-party studios under licensing and revenue-sharing arrangements, rather than being primarily a slate of Mercado Libre originals. Its 2025 annual filing also describes Mercado Play as a video advertising environment that complements Mercado Ads.

In practical terms, it is a way to stream licensed entertainment within the Mercado Livre ecosystem—not a free version of Netflix with an identical, permanent catalog. Mercado Libre’s 2023 filing identifies the launch; its Mexican service terms distinguish the free ad-supported and paid rental models.

The free catalog has no monthly subscription charge, but it is supported by advertising. Ads are part of the viewing model; the service’s terms allow for ads that may be skippable or non-skippable. The precise ad experience can vary by title, country, device and campaign, and no universal ad-break schedule is published in the cited service information. Mercado Libre’s help page says a monthly subscription is not required for free access.

Not every title necessarily belongs to that free catalog. Some films are rentals with a one-time price, which varies by title and market. Check the title’s label before starting so you do not mistake a rental for included viewing. In the Mexican terms, rentals are described separately from the ad-supported catalog; that distinction should not be assumed to have identical labels or conditions in every country. Internet access and any mobile-data charges are also the viewer’s responsibility.
What can you watch?
The service offers movies, series, documentaries, reality programming and children’s content, including Latin American and international material. Mercado Libre announced more than 1,200 titles and over 100 weekly additions on February 6, 2024. Those are historical company figures, not a current independently verified catalog count or a guarantee of how many titles are available today.
There is no reliable universal “best titles” list: licensing changes, and a film available in one country may be missing in another. Subtitles, dubbing and ratings can also differ by market. Browse the catalog from the country where you plan to watch rather than relying on a list made for another region. The dated figures appear in Mercado Libre’s February 6, 2024 announcement.

Where is Mercado Play available?
Mercado Libre’s corporate disclosure names seven markets: Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Uruguay. The service is region-restricted, and its help material says users see the catalog associated with the region where they are located. A title available to a friend in one country may therefore be unavailable to you, and traveling can change the catalog shown.
The cited corporate information does not establish general availability in the United States. Do not assume the service will work there simply because Mercado Libre operates in the country. Availability should be confirmed in the local Mercado Livre app or official app store. Mercado Libre’s country and catalog guidance explains the regional restriction.
How do you start watching?
Access may be available through the Mercado Livre website or mobile app, a Mercado Play app where offered, or a compatible television app. App names, menu labels and entry points vary by market and software version. In the Mercado Livre app, search for “Mercado Play” rather than relying on a single universal menu path.

The free catalog does not require a Meli+ subscription. Rentals may require an active Mercado Livre and/or Mercado Pago account with an enabled payment method; the exact terms depend on the market. The account, age and payment provisions cited here are from Mercado Libre’s Mexican terms.
How to watch Mercado Play on a smart TV
Mercado Libre’s Brazilian TV support page lists Samsung televisions running Tizen 5.5 or later, Android TV or Google TV running Android 6 for TV or later, LG televisions running webOS 6.0 or later, and Android devices running Android 6 or later. These are specifications on the Brazilian page, not a universal compatibility promise; check the app store on the particular device and in the country where you will watch.
- Connect the television to the internet and open its app store.
- Search for “Mercado Play” and install the app if it is listed.
- Open the app and select “Iniciar sessão” or the equivalent sign-in option.
- Complete the pairing using the QR code, browser code or Mercado Livre app-linking option shown on the TV. On the Brazilian support page, browser pairing uses play.mercadolivre.com.br/mercado-play-tv and the code displayed on the television.
If the app does not appear, the television may be unsupported, the service may not be available in your country, or regional app-store distribution may differ. Check the TV’s country and operating-system version, install available firmware updates, and search the exact app name again. If it remains unavailable, try the Mercado Livre app or a supported browser or device where offered. Avoid unofficial APK downloads.

Mercado Play and Meli+ are different
Meli+ is Mercado Libre’s paid loyalty program; Mercado Play is its video service. A Meli+ plan may include or discount other entertainment services depending on country and tier, but it is not the subscription required to access Mercado Play’s free catalog.

What to expect—and what not to expect
- A good fit: viewers in a supported country who want legal, no-monthly-fee streaming and are comfortable with ads and a changing selection.
- Less suitable: viewers who need ad-free playback, a stable library of current blockbuster releases, guaranteed 4K or offline downloads, or a consistent catalog across countries.
- Not established as a universal feature: the cited service information does not guarantee the same device support, language options, profiles or viewing features in every market.
Mercado Libre presents the service as a licensed platform supplied by third-party studios, distinguishing its stated model from unauthorized streaming sites. Common problems and fixes
A title appears to cost money
Mercado Play includes both free ad-supported content and paid rentals. Check the title’s label—such as “free,” “included,” “rent” or “buy,” depending on the local interface—before confirming a transaction. Rental availability and labels may differ by country.
The TV app is missing or sign-in pairing fails
- If the app is absent, check the TV’s operating-system version, country setting and app-store region, then update the TV and search “Mercado Play” again.
- If a TV code fails, request a fresh code and try the QR option. Confirm that the phone and television are using the intended Mercado Livre account.
- Use only the official pairing flow. A successful login cannot override country-level unavailability.
The catalog differs from someone else’s
Compare the country and date, as well as the title’s language or subtitle options and whether it is free or rented. Regional rights and catalog changes can account for different results.
Playback buffers or fails
- Test another title to see whether the problem affects one item or the whole service.
- Check the internet connection, then restart the app and television.
- Update the app and TV software, and sign out and back in.
- Try a browser or another supported device if available.
Mercado Libre’s terms call for a stable internet connection but do not establish a single minimum speed here. If only one title fails, the issue may be specific to that title rather than the device or connection.
