Melissa Rivers said she wishes her late mother, Joan Rivers, could see the person her son, Edgar “Cooper” Endicott, has become. In a January 2024 interview, she described Cooper as smart, funny, kind and empathetic, and said his growing ease with other people—and his humor—made her think of Joan.

What Melissa Rivers said about Cooper

In an interview published by PEOPLE on January 23, 2024, Melissa Rivers reflected on her son’s character and wished her mother could see how he was growing. “I wish she could see or know about what a solid person he’s become and still becoming,” she said. Cooper was 23 at the time of the interview; that age is a detail from 2024, not a current-age claim. Read the interview as republished by Yahoo Entertainment.

Melissa called him “smart,” “funny” and “kind,” adding, “He has empathy.” Those are her personal observations as his mother, rather than an independent assessment of his personality.

The moment that showed her his growing confidence

Melissa recalled seeing Cooper at a wedding, chatting and laughing with people without needing her to prompt him. Watching him take part so naturally moved her to describe him as a “lovely, charming, smart individual.” The moment stood out to her as a sign of how comfortable he had become socially.

Why his humor brought Joan to mind

Melissa said Cooper’s sense of humor reminded her of Joan. She imagined that her mother would have been pleased to see Melissa experience the familiar observation that children can turn out like their parents.

That reflection also sits alongside accounts of Joan as a familiar presence in Cooper’s childhood. Related reporting says Joan was often around while Melissa worked on a reality show and Fashion Police; visits from his grandmother were ordinary enough that Cooper did not treat them as a special event.
