Yes. Melissa Rauch confirmed that a body double performed the acrobatic sex scene in The Bronze (2015), as well as other scenes. Rauch played Hope Ann Greggory, a former gymnast, in the comedy she co-wrote with her husband, Winston Rauch.
What Melissa Rauch said about the body double
Asked directly whether the sex scene used a body double, Rauch answered, “Yes,” in a 2016 interview with We Are Movie Geeks. In a separate interview about preparing for the film, she said she knew she would have a double for the sex scene “and other scenes as well.”
Rauch explained that she still took gymnastics lessons to understand the character and make the physical details feel credible. “I wanted to immerse myself in that world as much as possible,” she told PBS SoCal/KCET, describing her aim of being as technically accurate as possible.
Why the scene involved gymnastics
The Bronze follows Hope Ann Greggory, a former world-class gymnast whose life has stalled after her athletic career. Rauch and Winston Rauch said the scene grew out of the characters’ shared background: as accomplished gymnasts, they imagined an unusually acrobatic encounter. Rauch described their approach in the We Are Movie Geeks interview as writing “the most crazy epic gymnastics sex scene ever.”

What is known about the double
A 2015 Yahoo Entertainment report described the search for someone with the necessary gymnastics ability and a similar build, and identified the person selected as a Cirque du Soleil performer. That detail comes from a contemporaneous report; the sources cited here do not establish a reliably corroborated name or further biography.
Why the scene drew attention
The scene became a prominent talking point around The Bronze’s Sundance premiere, as contemporary coverage by Interview and The Daily Beast reflects. The Daily Beast also reported that co-star Sebastian Stan performed his part without a body double; that was Stan’s choice, not Rauch’s.

No definitive ranking is established by these accounts. They support saying that this particular scene attracted substantial attention around Sundance, but “most controversial” is a headline framing rather than a quote from Rauch or a substantiated comparison with her other roles.
