Set around Meghan Markle’s Montecito home, the special mixes recipes, crafts and guests with unusually personal details about her family traditions, Prince Harry, her children and the people who have known her for years.
1. Christmas crackers bring a British tradition to California
Meghan makes Christmas crackers, a custom she learned while living in the United Kingdom. She describes pulling them together around the table as “really connected and sweet.” Her versions are personalized for each family member: a lavender rollerball for Lilibet, red treats and burger charms for Archie, and a small love letter for Harry.

2. Archie and Lilibet get giant, handwritten advent calendars
The oversized calendars contain personal notes, including “I love you because you’re so kind” and “I love you because you’re so brave.” Meghan says she hopes the ritual will continue “for quite a long time,” adding that traditions have to begin somewhere.
3. Doria Ragland’s Christmas Eve gumbo is the most intimate recipe
Meghan prepares the gumbo her mother, Doria Ragland, makes once a year. She connects it to her mother’s Tennessee family near Chattanooga and to her own affection for soul food, making the dish more than a cooking demonstration.

4. Prince Harry makes a surprise kitchen appearance
Harry unexpectedly joins Meghan and chef Tom Colicchio while they cook. He kisses Meghan on camera, says gumbo is one of his favorite foods and offers a gently competitive verdict: Meghan’s spicier version is not quite as good as Doria’s, but is “certainly close.”
5. Harry’s “anti-salad” reveals his food dislikes
As Colicchio prepares a salad with beets, black olives, fennel, anchovies and pickled vegetables, Meghan identifies the ingredients her husband dislikes. Harry calls the combination “the anti-salad,” turning a minor menu choice into one of the episode’s most revealing domestic jokes.
6. Guy’s memory survives in a tree ornament
The late beagle Guy appears only briefly, but an ornament made in his likeness receives a more deliberate moment. Meghan frames decorating the tree as an act of family remembrance, linking objects, love and the passage of time.
7. A childhood favorite becomes “Reindeer Chow”
Meghan makes the snack formerly known as Puppy Chow and renames it Reindeer Chow for the holidays. She ties it to a positive childhood memory involving a teacher, Ms. Linda, who enjoyed something Meghan had made.

8. Longtime friends share the holiday preparations
Lindsay Jill Roth, Meghan’s friend since she was 17, and Kelly McKee Zajfen, whom Meghan calls one of her nearest and dearest friends, join the crafts and snacks. The three also wear matching red satin pajamas, presenting friendship itself as part of the celebration.
9. Christmas-morning brunch is a fixed family ritual
Meghan says she makes Christmas-morning brunch every year. The spread includes a cinnamon star and baby quiches, showing how the special turns a recurring family habit into a practical holiday idea.
10. Tennis becomes a lesson in trying anyway
With Naomi Osaka, Meghan jokes that she is “painfully bad” at tennis. She recalls a school report card that marked her ability to throw or catch a ball as “not applicable,” then uses the story to encourage people to keep trying activities they may not do well.

Meghan demonstrates wax seals, decorative folded edges and wrapping for boxes, stuffed animals and wine bottles. She also uses the Japanese furoshiki method, tying a box with a scarf. The segment recalls her 2004–2005 job at Paper Source in Beverly Hills, where she taught calligraphy, gift wrapping and bookbinding.

Meghan presents hand-painted cookies as a family activity that changes after the children go to bed. Alone, she calls the work “quiet, calming, meditative” and says, “These small moments in between are the things that are actually going to create the energy you want…Take care of yourself and you’ll be able to take care of everybody else.”
What else happens in the special?
The guest mix includes Tom Colicchio, Will Guidara, Naomi Osaka, Lindsay Jill Roth and Kelly McKee Zajfen. Across the episode, recipes and crafts are used as entry points to stories about family, friendship, memory and self-care rather than as stand-alone demonstrations.
