Meghan Markle shared a glimpse of the Sussex family’s summer 2026 holiday in an Instagram post published on July 21. Captioned “Summer Holiday,” the post contained 11 photographs featuring Meghan, Prince Harry, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in relaxed family settings including a beach, a pool, outdoor spaces and a dinner.
The photographs offered more detail than the couple’s public statements, but they did not provide a complete or officially confirmed itinerary. Portugal appears to be the strongest location clue, while a separate visit to Althorp House in England was reported during the family’s July trip to the United Kingdom.
What Meghan’s holiday photographs showed
The 11-image Instagram post presented the trip as a private family break rather than a formal royal engagement. The scenes included:
- Meghan and the children at the beach;
- Harry playing with Lilibet in a swimming pool;
- family moments outdoors;
- a dinner setting;
- Archie sitting in an aircraft cockpit.
Archie and Lilibet were visibly present in several of the images, although the family’s approach to sharing photographs remained relatively protective. The children have often been photographed from behind or with their faces obscured in Meghan’s public posts. The holiday images showed more of their activities without turning the post into a detailed account of the family’s movements.

Why Portugal was identified as part of the trip
The Sussexes did not publish an itinerary naming every destination. The main evidence connecting the holiday photographs with Portugal was a menu visible in one image from O Melidense, a beachside restaurant in Melides.
Melides is in Portugal’s Alentejo region, a coastal area known for beaches and low-key seaside communities. Reporting has also linked the Sussexes to a holiday home in Portugal, but the couple have not publicly confirmed that they own a property there. That means the restaurant menu is a useful location clue, not proof of an officially announced Portuguese itinerary or a confirmed property purchase.

The family also traveled to the United Kingdom in July 2026. Photographs appeared to show Meghan, Harry and their children at Althorp House in Northamptonshire, the childhood home of Harry’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
Althorp has long been associated with Diana’s family history and is also the site of her grave. However, the images and reporting did not establish that the Sussexes visited Diana’s burial place. That detail should not be treated as confirmed.

ITV News described the Althorp visit as appearing to form part of the family’s holiday. Neither Meghan nor Harry released a detailed itinerary confirming how the UK stop related to the Portugal photographs.
Portugal and Althorp: what is confirmed and what is inferred?
| Detail | Status |
|---|---|
| Meghan posted 11 photographs captioned “Summer Holiday” | Confirmed; posted July 21, 2026 |
| Portugal was part of the family’s travels | Strongly suggested by the O Melidense menu and prior reporting, but not formally confirmed through an itinerary |
| The family visited Althorp House | Photographs and reporting appeared to identify the location |
| Portugal and Althorp were one officially announced itinerary | Not confirmed |
| The Sussexes bought a Portuguese home | Not confirmed |
| The family visited Diana’s grave | Not confirmed |
This distinction matters because the public evidence comes from photographs, a restaurant menu and media identification rather than from a travel announcement by the Sussexes. The available material supports a family holiday that included time in settings associated with Portugal and the UK, but not a fully documented route.
The separate meeting with King Charles III
The UK visit also included a private meeting with King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House. Buckingham Palace described the gathering as a “private family occasion.”

The meeting was significant because it was reported to be the first time the King had seen Archie and Lilibet since 2022. No photographs of the Highgrove meeting were released publicly, so it should not be confused with Meghan’s holiday post. The Instagram images documented family leisure time; they did not include pictures from the royal meeting.
ABC News reported the private Highgrove gathering and the palace’s description of it. The event was separate from the publicly shared vacation photographs, even though both took place during the family’s July travel.

The result is a record built from selected family photographs rather than a conventional travel diary. Portugal is the clearest location associated with the beach and restaurant imagery, while Althorp was identified through the UK photographs. Both should be described with the appropriate level of caution.
