Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal reunited as Sally and Harry for Hellmann’s 2025 Super Bowl commercial, “When Sally Met Hellmann’s.” The 30-second ad revisits the famous Katz’s Delicatessen scene from the 1989 film When Harry Met Sally—but it is a mayonnaise commercial, not a new scene or a remake of the movie.
What happens in the commercial?
At Katz’s Delicatessen, Sally and Harry celebrate their anniversary over lunch. Sally is dissatisfied with her turkey sandwich until she adds Hellmann’s mayonnaise. Her reaction draws attention from the other diners, and Sydney Sweeney, appearing as herself, delivers the familiar punch line: “I’ll Have What She’s Having.” The ad shifts the joke toward Sally’s enjoyment of the sandwich and the mayonnaise.
The spot borrows the deli setting and comic structure of the original film scene, then gives them a product-focused twist. The Associated Press also described Ryan and Crystal as reenacting the famous scene, with Sally’s enthusiasm redirected to Hellmann’s mayonnaise (Associated Press coverage).
Why the scene is familiar
In When Harry Met Sally, Sally demonstrates how convincingly someone can fake an orgasm while eating with Harry at Katz’s. A nearby diner, played by director Rob Reiner’s mother, responds with the line the ad brings back. Hellmann’s keeps the recognizable setting, the returning pair and the punch line, but replaces the film scene’s premise with a gag about a turkey sandwich made better with mayonnaise.

The commercial was filmed at the same Katz’s table used for the original scene, according to Hellmann’s announcement. That detail makes the reunion a deliberate callback rather than a recreation in a different deli set.

What the reunion means for the film
The spot brings Ryan and Crystal back to roles audiences associate with one of the film’s most quoted moments, but its purpose is to advertise Hellmann’s mayonnaise. It was released as a Super Bowl campaign, not as a continuation of the story or a new scene from When Harry Met Sally. Hellmann’s published the commercial on January 29, 2025 (official 30-second commercial).
