MGM+’s Robin Hood follows Robert of Locksley, played by Jack Patten, as a Saxon forester’s son who gradually becomes the outlaw leader known as Robin Hood. Opposite him is Lauren McQueen’s Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord, while Sean Bean plays the Sheriff of Nottingham—the central representative of Norman authority.
The romantic historical adventure premiered in the United States on MGM+ on November 2, 2025, with a two-episode launch. Season 1 contains 10 episodes, ending on December 28, 2025. MGM+ has renewed the series for a second 10-episode season, although no verified premiere date has been announced.
What is MGM+’s Robin Hood about?
This Robin Hood is an origin story rather than a retelling that begins with a fully established outlaw and his complete band of Merry Men. The series is set in 12th-century England after the Norman invasion and follows Rob as personal grief, political conflict and the treatment of the Saxon population push him toward rebellion.
Rob’s relationship with Marian is central to the premise. She is not presented simply as a traditional romantic accessory: she is the daughter of a Norman lord and becomes an important partner in the struggle against the regime surrounding the Sheriff of Nottingham. Their relationship therefore sits inside the larger Saxon-Norman divide.

The show combines romance, action, adventure, humor, class conflict, local authority and royal politics. Its creators have described an approach that keeps the fun and swashbuckling spirit associated with earlier versions while making the characters and the formation of Rob’s outlaw circle more grounded and believable. It should be viewed as a reimagined historical adventure, not as a precise account of a documented historical person.
Main cast and characters
Jack Patten as Robert of Locksley / Robin Hood
Jack Patten plays Robert of Locksley, the young man who becomes the legendary Robin Hood. The series begins with Rob as the son of Hugh Locksley, a Saxon forester, rather than as an already-famous outlaw. His movement from forester’s son to rebel leader is the show’s central character arc.
That origin-story structure allows the series to focus on how Rob’s identity, political convictions and relationships develop. The name “Robin Hood” describes the figure he grows into; on first introduction, Robert of Locksley is the more precise name for the character.
Lauren McQueen as Marian
Lauren McQueen plays Marian, Rob’s love interest and the daughter of a Norman lord. The character’s background makes the central romance politically complicated: Rob is a Saxon whose life is shaped by Norman rule, while Marian comes from the ruling side of that divide.

Marian is also an active partner in the story’s resistance, not merely a figure waiting for rescue. Her courage and involvement connect the emotional story between Rob and Marian to the broader political conflict. The official cast listings identify her as Marian rather than “Maid Marian,” so “Marian” is the appropriate name for this adaptation.
Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham
Sean Bean plays the Sheriff of Nottingham, the principal institutional adversary in the series. The Sheriff represents the local machinery of Norman authority that Rob and his allies challenge.

Bean is the most familiar name in the central ensemble and a major promotional draw for the series, but he is not playing Robin Hood or another version of the outlaw hero. His role is the Sheriff—the authority figure opposing Rob’s rebellion.
The Norman court and political power structure
Although the immediate conflict centers on Nottingham and Sherwood, the series broadens its world through noble, royal, military and religious figures. These characters place Rob’s local rebellion within the larger politics of Norman England.
Recommended Free Tools
Connie Nielsen as Eleanor of Aquitaine
Connie Nielsen plays Eleanor of Aquitaine, the historically prominent queen. Her inclusion expands the drama beyond the Sheriff’s local authority and gives the series a royal and court-politics dimension. Eleanor is positioned as an influential figure in the political landscape surrounding Rob and his allies.
Steven Waddington as the Earl of Huntingdon
Steven Waddington plays the Earl of Huntingdon, a nobleman within the Norman-era power structure. He belongs to the aristocratic and political ensemble rather than Rob’s developing outlaw group.
Richard Lintern as the Bishop of Hereford
Richard Lintern plays the Bishop of Hereford, a senior church figure in the series’ political and religious landscape. The role adds another layer of institutional power to a story otherwise focused on nobles, soldiers, rebels and local officials.
Graeme Thomas King as Prince John
Graeme Thomas King plays Prince John. The character is traditionally associated with the political uncertainty created by King Richard’s absence, and his presence gives the adaptation another connection to the royal mythology surrounding Robin Hood.

Oscar Salem as the Marshal / Earl of Pembroke
Oscar Salem is credited as the Marshal / Earl of Pembroke, a senior military or aristocratic figure in the extended power structure. The available cast information identifies the role but does not establish a fuller character arc without episode-specific detail.
Rob’s allies and the developing outlaw circle
The series takes time to show the formation of the group associated with Robin Hood. That means familiar names should not automatically be treated as members of a fully assembled Merry Men at the beginning of the story.
Marcus Fraser as Little John
Marcus Fraser plays Little John, one of the best-known figures traditionally connected with Robin Hood. In this version, Little John belongs to the origin-story approach: the show presents the development of Rob’s outlaw circle rather than assuming that the familiar ensemble already exists.
Angus Castle-Doughty as Friar Tuck
Angus Castle-Doughty plays Friar Tuck. This version presents him as a principled young monk who wants to fight for genuine justice. His opposition to Norman abuses eventually brings him into alignment with Robin Hood and the outlaws.
Friar Tuck and Little John are especially important to the show’s attempt to give familiar figures more personal and believable beginnings, including showing how Rob encounters and connects with them.
Henry Rowley as Will Gamewell
Henry Rowley plays Will Gamewell, a member of the wider supporting ensemble connected to the local and outlaw storylines. The available cast information confirms the role but does not provide enough detail to summarize his full arc without speculation.

Erica Ford as Ralph Miller
Erica Ford plays Ralph Miller. Ralph is part of the Miller family thread, which also includes Drew Miller, played by Matija Gredić. The cast sources establish the family connection but do not provide enough reliable information to describe Ralph’s complete storyline without risking spoilers or invention.
The Locksley family and other supporting characters
- Tom Mison as Hugh Locksley: Rob’s father, described as a proud Saxon with deep ties to the land. Hugh’s role helps establish Rob’s family background and connection to the English countryside.
- Anastasia Griffith as Joan Locksley: A member of the Locksley family and part of Rob’s family backstory.
- Matija Gredić as Drew Miller: A supporting character connected to the Miller family storyline.
- Ian Pirie as Uncle Gamewell: A supporting character listed in the full cast information.
- Ryan Gage as Spragart: A named supporting character in the series ensemble.
- Mihailo Lazić as Henry: A named supporting role in the cast.
- Boban Marjanović as Drogo: A recurring or supporting role in the extended ensemble.
- Jelena Gavrilović as Godda: A named supporting character in the Locksley and Saxon ensemble.
- Klemen Novak as Gerold: An additional named supporting role.
- James Farley as Milange: An additional named supporting role.
- Tamara Radovanovic as Celene De Fitzou: An additional named supporting role.
- Freddie Hastwel as Aleppo: An additional named supporting role.
These actors belong to the broader cast, but the available material does not establish that every supporting character is part of Robin Hood’s outlaw band. The series distinguishes the familiar figures—such as Little John and Friar Tuck—from the larger social, family and political ensemble.
