ABC introduced 24 men, ages 57 to 69, as contestants on the first season of The Golden Bachelorette. They came from across the United States and included a rancher, emergency-room doctor, educator, retired Navy captain, salon owner, contractor, caterer, financial professionals and public-safety leaders. The season starred Joan Vassos, the 61-year-old school administrator from Rockville, Maryland, who had previously appeared on The Golden Bachelor.
This is the announced-cast guide: it identifies the men ABC presented before the season began, along with their ages, hometowns and occupations. It does not suggest that all 24 men remained in the competition through the finale.
Who was Joan Vassos before The Golden Bachelorette?
Joan Vassos was introduced as the first Golden Bachelorette after appearing on the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor. ABC described her as a mother of four, grandmother and school administrator from Rockville, Maryland.
Vassos left The Golden Bachelor after a medical concern involving her daughter. ABC also noted that she had lost her husband after 32 years of marriage. Those experiences formed part of the second-chance-at-love context surrounding her season, but the central focus of the new series was Vassos meeting a new group of men.

- John “Jack” is the Chicago caterer, while Jonathan and Jordan are separate contestants.
- Kenneth “Ken” is the property-management treasurer from Peabody, Massachusetts.
- Ralph “RJ” is the financial advisor from Irvine, California.
- Jordan’s occupation varies slightly by ABC source: ABC News described him as a sales manager, while ABC’s cast-page wording identified him as a senior sales executive. Both descriptions refer to the same contestant.
- Keith’s listed occupation was “Girl dad.” That is the role ABC used in its cast information rather than a conventional job title.
- Bob’s hometown is Marina del Rey, California. Some copy rendered the name as “Marina Del Ray,” but Marina del Rey is the standard spelling of the California community.
What stood out about the group?
The cast represented a wide range of later-life experiences rather than one narrow professional profile. The men included active professionals such as an emergency-room doctor, contractor, chiropractor, private investor, portfolio manager, insurance executive, salon owner and fire department chief. Others were retired from careers in video production, finance, higher education, banking, the military, international organizations and naval service.
