What songs were cut from the Mean Girls movie?
“It Roars” and “Stop,” both songs from the stage musical, are confirmed examples of numbers that did not make the movie, according to TIME. They should not be treated as a complete list: no authoritative, exhaustive list of songs omitted from the film is established.

Why did the filmmakers change the songs?
In a January–February 2024 interview with Post Magazine, director Samantha Jayne said the team discussed with Tina Fey and others which songs to retain and which to leave out, then reshaped the sound toward a fresher pop palette. She described it as music closer to what young listeners might hear on Spotify.
TIME reported that the directors cited budget, runtime, and a PG-13 target as constraints. TIME gives the film’s runtime as 1 hour 52 minutes and the stage musical’s as two and a half hours. Those are reported considerations, not a documented explanation for every individual cut.

How does the film’s music differ from the stage musical?
BroadwayWorld reported 12 musical numbers in the film compared with 21 songs in the stage version. That comparison describes the musical numbers and songs as reported by BroadwayWorld; it does not supply a complete inventory of retained and omitted tracks.
Rather than simply transferring the stage show to screen, directors Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. approached the musical sequences through cinematic framing and character perspective. They described moving between phone-shaped 9:16 images and widescreen composition, using the format to reflect how scenes feel to the characters. Perez told BroadwayWorld that the guiding questions were whose perspective a sequence occupies and what feeling it should create.

Paramount describes Mean Girls (2024) as based on the stage musical. Tina Fey wrote the film; Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. directed it, with music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin. The story follows Cady Heron as she enters the Plastics’ social circle and comes into conflict with Regina George.
