More than 700 seasons of television were reported to be leaving Max’s U.S. catalog in May 2025, with Discovery-family reality programming taking most of the hit. The figure was a reported catalog tally based on a fan-compiled list—not a number Warner Bros. Discovery publicly confirmed. The removals were selective, and newer episodes of some franchises remained available.
The removals were also selective: newer episodes of some franchises remained available even as many older seasons disappeared.
When the reported Max removals happened
The reported schedule began with Mary Makes It Easy Season 1, which was listed for removal on May 1, 2025. A much larger wave of Discovery-related programming was reported to follow on May 2.
Those dates and the season count applied to the U.S. Max catalog. They should not be treated as a permanent or worldwide inventory. Streaming catalogs can differ by country, account, licensing arrangement, and date, and titles can sometimes be restored or removed again.

Which shows were affected?
The reported purge was concentrated in unscripted programming from brands associated with Warner Bros. Discovery, including TLC, Food Network, HGTV, Discovery Channel and related reality-TV catalogs. It was not primarily a mass removal of flagship HBO dramas.
90 Day Fiancé and its spinoffs
The reported list included more than 40 seasons across 90 Day Fiancé and its spinoffs. A May 3 account of the changes found that many older seasons had disappeared while newer episodes remained.
That account specifically reported that all seasons of 90 Day: The Single Life and 90 Day Fiancé: Love in Paradise were gone at that point. This illustrates why the event is better understood as a selective catalog reduction than as the removal of one entire television brand.
My 600-lb Life
The same contemporaneous account reported that My 600-lb Life Seasons 1 through 9 and Season 11 had been removed. It also listed the removal of Seasons 1 through 3, 7 and 9 of My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?

Why did Max remove the seasons?
Max did not publicly provide a verified, title-by-title explanation in the reporting available at the time. Warner Bros. Discovery and Max had not formally announced the purge or identified a confirmed destination for every affected program.
Two possibilities were discussed: the seasons could have been subject to licensing or catalog-redistribution decisions, or the removals could have formed part of broader efforts to reduce streaming costs. Neither explanation should be presented as the company’s confirmed motive.
Warner Bros. Discovery later described a streaming strategy centered on programming that performed best, including HBO programming, recent theatrical films, docuseries, selected reality shows, Max and local originals. The company also indicated that genres producing less engagement or customer acquisition were being given less priority. That provides strategic context, but it does not prove why any particular 90 Day Fiancé or My 600-lb Life season left Max.
Could the missing shows be on discovery+?
If the season you want is no longer on Max, check discovery+ next. The service is the most relevant legal alternative because it is built around Discovery-family programming, including Discovery Channel, TLC, HGTV, Food Network, ID and related reality and documentary content.
That does not mean every season removed from Max automatically moved to discovery+. The available reporting established discovery+ as the logical service to check, not as a complete, verified replacement catalog. Search for the exact series and season in the U.S. discovery+ app or website before subscribing.

What Max’s catalog policy means for viewers
The practical lesson is uncomfortable but important: a streaming subscription provides temporary access, not permanent ownership. Max’s own help materials explain that some programs are available only for a limited time and direct viewers to a Last Chance row for titles that are leaving.

That makes long-running reality franchises particularly vulnerable to access gaps. A viewer may be halfway through a series when an older season disappears, even though later seasons or related spinoffs are still present. A title being available today is not a promise that it will remain available for the duration of a subscription.
How to find a season that disappeared from Max
- Check Max’s departure notices. Look in the Last Chance area and search the exact series title. A title page may show different results from the general catalog depending on region and timing.
- Search discovery+ by series and season. Do not rely only on a franchise landing page. Confirm that the particular season and episodes you need are included in the U.S. catalog.
- Check legal digital storefronts or other services. Availability can vary by season, and a show’s presence on one platform does not establish that every season is there.
- Consider permanent access only for a specific release. DVDs, Blu-rays and digital purchases may exist for individual shows or seasons, but there is no verified broad physical-media catalog covering everything in the reported purge. Check the exact season before buying.
- Save your viewing progress and act before a deadline. If a departure notice is visible, prioritize the episodes you are watching rather than assuming the catalog will be restored.
What the “700 seasons” figure does—and does not—mean
| Claim | What can safely be said |
|---|---|
| More than 700 seasons were affected | This was a reported estimate or catalog tally, not a Warner Bros. Discovery confirmation. |
| Every Discovery show left Max | Incorrect. The reported removals were large but selective, and some newer content remained. |
| The affected programs moved to discovery+ | Unverified. discovery+ is the first service worth checking, but exact season availability must be confirmed. |
| The purge was caused by cost-cutting | Unconfirmed. Cost and licensing explanations were discussed as possibilities, not established facts. |
| The changes affected viewers everywhere | Incorrect. The report concerned the U.S. catalog; other countries may have different availability. |
Bottom line
Max’s reported May 2025 purge removed a substantial amount of older Discovery-related reality programming from its U.S. catalog, including many seasons of 90 Day Fiancé spinoffs and My 600-lb Life. The “more than 700 seasons” figure should remain attributed to reporting rather than treated as an official Warner Bros. Discovery statistic.
For viewers who lost a season, discovery+ is the most sensible next place to look, but no available evidence supports promising that every removed title is there. Check the exact season, verify current pricing and availability, and treat streaming access as time-limited unless you have confirmed a separate purchase or physical release.

Frequently Asked Questions
Did Max really remove more than 700 seasons?
The reported figure referred to more than 700 seasons in the U.S. Max catalog, based on a fan-compiled catalog list. Warner Bros. Discovery did not publicly confirm that exact number.
Which shows were removed from Max?
The reported removals included more than 40 seasons across 90 Day Fiancé and its spinoffs, multiple seasons of My 600-lb Life and My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?, and Mary Makes It Easy Season 1. The list was not a complete worldwide catalog.
Did the removed Max shows move to discovery+?
Not necessarily. discovery+ is the most relevant service to check because it carries Discovery-family programming, but the available evidence does not establish that every removed Max season moved there.
Why did Max remove the seasons?
