Yes—you can subscribe to Max through YouTube Primetime Channels in the United States and watch the programming offered with that subscription in YouTube. It is not a new 2026 launch: Warner Bros. Discovery and YouTube announced the option in December 2023. The practical appeal is keeping billing and viewing in YouTube; it does not mean your existing Max subscription automatically transfers, or that every feature of the Max app carries over.
What “Max on YouTube” means
YouTube Primetime Channels is a storefront for selected third-party streaming subscriptions. You buy a channel through YouTube, then watch its available programming in the YouTube app or website. The Max offering is sometimes labeled HBO Max in YouTube documentation, even though the service is marketed as Max. Warner Bros. Discovery announced the U.S. launch on December 12, 2023, with programming beginning to appear on December 15 (Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement).
This is a paid subscription, not free access through Max’s regular YouTube channel. You do not need YouTube TV to buy an individual Primetime Channel. And buying through YouTube is a separate billing arrangement from subscribing directly to Max; it is not simply a sign-in method for an existing Max account. YouTube’s Primetime Channels help page explains the purchase and viewing process.
The confirmed availability covered here is the United States. Primetime Channels operate in other countries, but that does not establish that Max is offered in each of them. Catalog, pricing, and plan availability can depend on location.

How to subscribe
Before confirming, check the Google account you are signed into. The subscription will be associated with the account used at checkout. Review the exact plan name, price, any introductory offer, when it ends, and the renewal price and date. Promotions may renew at the standard price when the offer expires.
- Computer: Open YouTube’s Movies & TV area, find the Primetime Channels section, and select the HBO Max/Max channel. Choose the sign-up or purchase option and complete checkout. You can also search YouTube for the service and select Sign Up on its channel page.
- Android: In the YouTube app, open the You tab, choose Movies & TV, find the channel, and follow the purchase prompts. Searching for the service and choosing Sign Up is another route.
- iPhone or iPad: Open the You tab, go to Movies & TV, and follow the channel’s purchase prompts. YouTube notes that promotional pricing may not appear in the iOS app because of billing limitations. If an offer is missing, try completing signup in a web browser, then watch in the YouTube app.
- Smart TV: In a supported YouTube app, look under Movies & TV and Primetime Channels. Menus vary by TV and app version; if you cannot find a clear purchase flow, use a browser to subscribe.
YouTube’s current documentation may use the HBO Max label. Confirm that you have selected the intended paid channel, rather than assuming that any free videos on YouTube provide the subscription library.

Where to watch after subscribing
Use the YouTube account that made the purchase. YouTube says purchased channel content can be found in Movies & TV under Purchased, in Subscriptions, through YouTube search, and in the library on supported smart TVs. The available selection can include HBO originals, DC titles, Warner Bros. films, and programming from other brands in the Max catalog, but do not assume every title or feature is identical to the direct Max service. Rights, location, device, and other restrictions can affect what plays.

Max’s U.S. help center lists the following direct Max prices: Basic with Ads at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year; Standard at $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year; and Premium at $20.99 per month or $209.99 per year. The listed features include Full HD and two simultaneous streams for Basic with Ads; Full HD, two streams, and 30 downloads for Standard; and 4K where available, four streams, 100 downloads, and Dolby Atmos where available for Premium. Those are Max’s direct plan prices—not verified prices for the YouTube channel. YouTube’s published help page does not provide a current Max-through-YouTube price, and providers may offer only certain plans. Check the live YouTube checkout page for the available tier, its price, billing interval, and renewal terms. Do not assume that a direct Max annual plan, feature set, or price is available through YouTube.
What YouTube billing does—and does not—change
- YouTube Premium does not remove ads from Primetime Channel programming. Ad breaks depend on the provider and program. Even if you subscribe to YouTube Premium, its usual benefits do not automatically make channel shows commercial-free.
- Premium’s downloads and background playback do not automatically apply. YouTube says Primetime Channel programs generally cannot use YouTube Premium’s offline-download or mobile background-play benefits.
- Do not assume you can use the Max app. App authentication and access depend on the specific provider and offer. The available Primetime Channel guidance does not establish Max-app access for every YouTube-billed plan. Verify before subscribing if the Max app is essential to you.
- Confirm quality and stream limits for the exact offer. Max’s direct plans list their own stream, download, video, and audio features. YouTube’s help page says its Primetime Channels content can be watched on up to three devices, but that is not a guarantee that every Max plan permits three simultaneous streams or offers the same formats.

YouTube is a sensible choice if you already watch there and value one place for search, playback, and subscription billing. Direct Max is the clearer choice if you want Max-specific account management, an annual plan, downloads, or confidence about Max-app features. Compare the exact checkout terms rather than choosing on the assumption that the two subscriptions are identical.

If you already subscribe to Max
Do not start a second subscription until you know who bills your current one. A Max subscription may be billed directly, by an app store, Prime Video Channels, a TV provider, YouTube TV, or another partner. A new YouTube Primetime purchase may create duplicate charges; an existing direct plan does not automatically become YouTube-billed.

- Open your Max account’s billing or subscription details and identify the provider.
- If you want to switch, cancel through the provider that currently bills you—not necessarily through Max.com.
- Check when the existing access period ends and when the YouTube plan would begin, so you can avoid overlapping charges or an unwanted gap.
- Read the YouTube offer’s renewal date and price before completing the purchase. Confirm any account-linking or promotional eligibility in the current checkout flow.
Max lists YouTube Primetime Channels among subscription providers, but that does not guarantee automatic migration or identical account access. Its provider guidance is the place to check who manages a subscription.

Primetime Channels versus YouTube TV
These are related but different options. Primetime Channels lets you buy an individual channel through YouTube without YouTube TV. YouTube TV is a separate live-TV subscription with its own premium add-ons and access rules.
YouTube TV lists an Entertainment Plus package for $29.99 per month that bundles HBO Max, STARZ, and Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. It may suit a household that already wants YouTube TV and all three services. It is not necessarily the best value if you only want Max, and the bundle’s content and app access can differ from an individual Primetime Channel. YouTube TV’s bundle help page describes access rules, including special Max-app access for its HBO Max component. Check the current bundle terms before comparing it with a standalone subscription.
How to cancel a YouTube-billed channel
- Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships.
- Under Digital purchases & rentals, find the channel.
- Select Deactivate, then choose Continue to cancel.
- Select a reason and confirm.
YouTube says a refund request may also be available. Canceling a YouTube subscription will not cancel a separate Max plan billed by another provider, so check for other active subscriptions as well.
