Yes—Matt Reeves said in 2024 that a trilogy remained the plan for his Robert Pattinson-led Batman story. That is not the same as three films being completed, greenlit, or scheduled. Peter Safran has also been reported as describing Reeves’ “crime saga” as the Batman trilogy and The Penguin, but the accessible report does not establish that Safran said the trilogy had been mapped out from the beginning.
What Reeves said about a trilogy
In comments reproduced by Batman on Film from an interview it attributes to Collider, Reeves said: “Yes, that is still the plan. I mean, it’s sticking very closely to the path we envisioned.” The statement supports an intended trilogy as of 2024. It does not confirm that all three films have been made or that the plan cannot change.
How The Penguin affected the story plan
Reeves also said that plans shifted as the HBO series took shape. He explained that he had wanted to continue Oswald Cobblepot’s story and tell how he began his rise to power. The series’ story had initially been intended as an entry into the next movie; developing it changed how that material fit into the larger narrative.
That account helps explain why “the plan” should not be read as a fixed, fully disclosed three-film outline. Reeves described a direction for the story, while acknowledging that the route evolved.

What DC leadership has confirmed—and what it has not
In a 2023 DC interview, James Gunn said Reeves was working on The Batman – Part II and described The Batman as its own story that DC planned to continue. Safran said the project remained at DC and that the studio was fully invested in it. Those comments establish support for the sequel and for Reeves’ separate Batman story, not a release schedule for a completed trilogy.
A later ComicBook.com report attributes to Safran a description of Reeves’ crime-saga lane as the Batman trilogy and The Penguin series. That supports the way DC leadership has grouped the projects, but the report does not provide a traceable direct quotation showing Safran said the trilogy was conceived as three films from the outset. The stronger “original blueprint” claim should therefore not be treated as confirmed.

Reeves’ Batman is separate from the DCU Batman
DC’s 2023 slate announcement distinguished Reeves’ films from the connected DC Universe (DCU). It named The Brave and the Bold as the DCU’s Batman project and explicitly said that Batman would not be Robert Pattinson. The same announcement noted DC was working with Pattinson and Reeves on The Batman – Part II.
So the trilogy discussed here belongs to Reeves’ separate crime saga, not the announced DCU Batman continuity. A September 2026 report about Pattinson discussing a hypothetical crossover does not establish that a crossover has been decided.
