Spoilers for all four episodes of Marvel Zombies. Kamala’s apparent happy ending is an illusion: Wanda has seemingly hidden the zombie-ravaged reality from her, and Riri is still trying to reach her. The twist lands as a bleak horror reversal, but it leaves Wanda’s precise plan and the survivors’ fates unresolved.
What happens at the end of Marvel Zombies?
After the survivors’ attempt to get help from the Nova Corps fails, they reach Kamar-Taj. Wanda arrives with her undead forces, seeking the Infinity Stone power concentrated in Hulk and Kamala’s reality-shaping abilities. The survivors are overwhelmed, and Kamala eventually yields.
Kamala then wakes in what looks like a restored Jersey, surrounded by family and friends. The scene begins like a reprieve, but reality glitches. Riri warns Kamala that none of it is real, and the zombie world breaks through. The strongest reading is that Wanda has placed Kamala inside an illusion while the real world remains overrun. GamesRadar+ and RadioTimes interpret the ending this way (GamesRadar+; RadioTimes).
Did Scarlet Witch cure the zombie plague?
The finale does not establish that Wanda cured the plague. GamesRadar+ suggests Wanda may have cured herself while concealing the world from Kamala, but that is an interpretation of the reveal, not a complete on-screen explanation of the spell. The show does not clarify the illusion’s mechanics or how long Kamala may remain inside it (GamesRadar+).

How is Riri Williams still alive at the end?
Riri was bitten in the first episode, injected herself with an unidentified substance, and was not shown dying. In the finale, she is fighting zombies and trying to reach Kamala. The substance’s identity and its effect are not confirmed, so it should not be described as a proven antidote (GamesRadar+; RadioTimes).
What is Scarlet Witch’s plan?
Wanda’s immediate aim is to obtain the Infinity Stone power held by Hulk and use Kamala’s abilities to reshape reality. The finale implies that she has put Kamala in a false, comforting version of life, but it does not explain what Wanda intends to do next or whether the illusion serves a larger purpose. Nor does it settle precisely which other survivors are still alive (GamesRadar+).

Was the final twist any good?
As a horror reversal, it is effective. The restored Jersey initially offers emotional relief, then turns into another threat: Kamala is isolated from the truth, and Riri’s warning arrives amid the continuing danger. The ending’s bleakness fits the series’ zombie premise.
On clarity and closure, the result is more divisive. The reveal makes the broad situation legible, but not the spell’s mechanics or Wanda’s next move. Viewers who value an unsettling cliffhanger may find the open ending purposeful; those looking for concrete outcomes for the survivors may find it incomplete. That is a critical judgment, not a creator-confirmed explanation of the finale.

Marvel describes Marvel Zombies as a four-part expansion of the dystopian world introduced in What If…?, while explicitly saying it is not a direct continuation of that episode’s cliffhanger. Disney quotes Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Television and Marvel Animation, describing it as: “It stands alone as an epic adventure set inside a greater lore.” Director, writer, and executive producer Bryan Andrews said the project grew from internal interest in the earlier zombies episode, adding: “It just sounded fun” (Marvel’s announcement).
