María Antonieta Collins recordó que su hija, Antonieta “Toni” Collins, sufrió golpes durante una relación adolescente y que la familia la envió de Miami a Ohio para alejarla de esa situación. En una conversación con el conductor Alejandro Chabán, Collins recordó la relación violenta de su hija y dijo: “Mi hija Antonieta casi me la mata un novio a golpes cuando nunca había antecedentes de violencia doméstica en mi casa”, según informó People en Español en una nota actualizada el 15 de julio de 2024. La frase del titular es la caracterización de Collins, no una conclusión judicial.
De acuerdo con la nota, Toni era adolescente cuando conoció al joven en un grupo de niñas católicas que ayudaban a muchachos con problemas. Collins dijo que intuyó que algo no estaba bien y afirmó que su hija recibía golpes. También contó que temía por la vida de Toni y por la posibilidad de que quedara embarazada.
Por qué la familia la envió a Ohio
Collins dijo que la familia decidió sacar a su hija de Miami y enviarla a Ohio. “Tuvimos que sacar a Antonieta de Miami cuando tenía todo pagado en las universidades, y mandarla a Ohio”, le atribuye la nota. Allí, Toni estudió periodismo. La cobertura sitúa el episodio aproximadamente dos décadas antes de julio de 2024, pero no indica un año exacto.

Qué se sabe sobre el origen del relato
La nota de People en Español señala que Collins ya había narrado la experiencia en su libro Cuando el monstruo despierta y que la recordó en la conversación con Chabán. No ofrece una transcripción completa ni una marca de tiempo de esa conversación.
