Madison Beer said she was 15 when she learned that a private nude video was circulating online. She said some related material had been created when she was approximately 13 or 14. Her account is a report of image-based sexual abuse and lasting trauma—not an invitation to search for or share the material.

Content note: This article discusses the nonconsensual sharing of intimate images, childhood trauma, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. It does not describe, display or link to the private material.

Madison Beer said she was 15 when she learned that a private nude video was circulating online. She said some of the other intimate material involved had been created when she was approximately 13 or 14, making her a minor when the images were made and when the circulation came to light.

Her account, first covered in connection with an April 2023 episode of Call Her Daddy, describes more than a celebrity scandal. It is an account of intimate-image abuse, public humiliation and the lasting psychological effects of having private material shared without consent.

What Madison Beer said happened

In the interview, Beer said she had sent private videos to a boy she knew. She suspected that the videos may have been captured through an app while she was sending Snapchat messages. She said she later discovered that one of the videos was spreading online.

Beer said she tried to contact a person who had posted one of the videos and asked for it to be deleted. According to her account, the person blocked her.

Those details are based on Beer’s recollection as reported by Entertainment Tonight; they should not be treated as an independently established account of who recorded, posted or redistributed the material. No alleged perpetrator should be identified without independently verified evidence.

The central fact is consent: sending a private image or video to one person does not give that person—or anyone else—permission to redistribute it. Because Beer said some of the material was created while she was underage, repeating, seeking out or sharing it would further exploit the person at the center of the story. This article does not provide directions to the material, descriptions of it or links to it.

Beer’s account of the emotional aftermath

Beer described learning about the circulation as frightening and said the memory remained vivid years later. The official listing for the Call Her Daddy episode says the conversation covered the spread of nude videos, multiple instances of blackmail, public slut-shaming, childhood trauma and suicidal thoughts.

Entertainment Tonight reported that Beer connected the leak and earlier trauma with self-harm and suicide attempts. That is Beer’s personal account, not an independent medical finding, and it should be reported with that distinction intact. The experience of one survivor also should not be generalized into a diagnosis or a claim about every victim of image-based abuse.

Public discussion of these cases often shifts attention toward what the victim sent, whom they trusted or whether they should have used a particular app. That framing places responsibility in the wrong place. The harm described here came from the sharing and public treatment of private material without consent—not from the existence of a private communication.

Timeline of the disclosures

Date or age What was reported
Approximately ages 13–14 Beer said some of the private material dated from this period, when she was a minor.
Age 15 Beer said she learned that a nude video was circulating online.
April 19, 2023 The relevant Call Her Daddy episode was listed, and Entertainment Tonight published coverage of Beer’s disclosures.
2023 Beer’s memoir, The Half of It, was published.
January 24, 2026 Complex published a retrospective interview report about Beer’s reflections on the public and professional consequences.

Later reflections on the professional fallout

In a January 2026 interview reported by Complex, Beer said the public response was particularly damaging because she was a minor who was shamed on social media. She told the publication that she lost her manager, label deal and lawyer within roughly 48 hours.

That chronology is a retrospective account attributed to Beer through Complex’s interview coverage. It is not presented here as a fully independently documented employment record. The broader point, however, is clear in her telling: the consequences extended beyond the immediate fear of the material circulating and affected how adults, institutions and online audiences treated her afterward.

How the story appears in The Half of It

Beer later revisited the experience in her memoir, The Half of It. The publisher describes the book as covering her early internet fame, online hate, leaked private pictures, mental-health struggles, advocacy and recovery. That wider context matters because the memoir is not simply a retelling of one leak; it places the event within the pressures Beer says she experienced as a young person who became publicly known online.

Readers who want to understand Beer’s own account beyond the interviews can look for Madison Beer’s memoir, The Half of It. The publisher lists hardcover, ebook and downloadable-audiobook editions, along with retailer options. Edition availability, pricing and geographic access can change, so readers should verify those details before purchasing.

Why this should be reported as abuse, not gossip

Stories involving private sexual material are easily turned into search bait. That approach can cause additional harm, especially when the person depicted was a child. Responsible coverage should:

  • Make clear that the material was shared without consent.
  • State that Beer was a minor when she said the material was created and circulated.
  • Attribute disputed, retrospective or personal claims to Beer and the publication reporting them.
  • Avoid naming alleged perpetrators without verified evidence.
  • Never embed, link to, describe or help readers locate the images or videos.
  • Report mental-health disclosures without graphic detail or speculation.

Beer’s story also illustrates why consent cannot be reduced to the original act of sending a private image. Consent must cover the specific use and recipient; it is not automatically transferred to a wider audience.

If this coverage brings up suicidal thoughts

If you or someone with you may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. In the United States and Canada, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Readers elsewhere should contact their local crisis service or emergency number. If possible, stay with the person at risk and move away from anything they could use to hurt themselves.

What can be responsibly concluded

Madison Beer said private intimate material created during her minor years was circulated without her consent, that she experienced fear and public shaming as a result, and that the effects persisted. She later discussed the experience in interviews and in The Half of It.

The responsible response is not to search for the material or speculate about who handled it. It is to understand the account as a report of image-based sexual abuse, keep the focus on the person harmed, and avoid reproducing the exploitation that made the story traumatic in the first place.
