ABC’s official synopsis reads: “Matt is thrilled to show off his military-hero son Sam, but a shift in Sam’s career could finally give Riley a chance to be the golden child. Meanwhile, Andy’s singing hits all the wrong notes for Riley. Jesse Williams and Luke Macfarlane guest star.”
How Sam fits into the Parker family
Sam’s arrival puts Matt’s pride in his son beside his complicated relationship with Riley. Riley is Matt’s estranged daughter, played by Kat Dennings; she and her children move into Matt’s home. The episode’s premise suggests that a change in Sam’s career could shift Matt’s attention and give Riley an opportunity to become the family’s “golden child.”
