Love Storiyaan is a six-part Indian documentary series about couples whose relationships have faced social barriers. Its stories give the series emotional and social force, but its dramatized recreations and brisk pacing can make some of that complexity feel simplified. For viewers weighing “Is Love Storiyaan worth watching?”, the answer depends on whether a broad, affirming set of real-life stories matters more than sustained documentary depth.
What is Love Storiyaan?
Released in 2024, Love Storiyaan follows six couples from different parts of India. Prime Video categorizes it as documentary and romance, and lists Amazon Studios and Dharmatic Entertainment among its credits. The series grew out of stories shared by the India Love Project, a social-media initiative by journalists Priya Ramani, Samar Halarnkar, and Niloufer Venkatraman that documents couples overcoming social obstacles, according to Apple TV and Scroll.

Love Storiyaan OTT review: What works and what does not
The stories have genuine social weight
The series makes space for relationships that face judgment from family or society, rather than treating romance as separate from those pressures. In her February 14, 2024 review for Scroll, Nandini Ramnath notes the range of fault lines represented, including religion, caste, regional difference, and gender identity. That breadth is the show’s clearest strength: it places different kinds of resistance side by side without suggesting that every couple’s experience is the same.

Recreations can undercut the documentary feel
Ramnath’s central criticism is the use of dramatized recreations to revisit the couples’ pasts. She writes that the device can feel artificial, and that the episodes sometimes move through scenes without enough rigor or a sustained rhythm. The effect matters because the stories are compelling in themselves: reconstruction can make them feel more like conventional romance drama just when the viewer might want more context about what the couples endured.
Ramnath found Shazia Iqbal’s episode about Sunit and Farida especially fulfilling and documentary-like. She also describes Rahul and Subhadra’s story as engrossing despite its uneven rhythm. Her review further argues that the series soft-pedals the consequences of hostility toward relationships that defy convention. These are critical judgments, not official descriptions of the series.

Episode guide: the six couples
The following summaries reflect Prime Video and Apple TV catalog descriptions. Scroll’s review supplies additional context for some stories.
- “An Unsuitable Girl”: Delhi-based writer Aekta and Kerala-based journalist Ullekh face opposition from Aekta’s daughters. The listing says they later visit Ullekh’s hometown as a family.
- “Love on Air”: Radio jockeys Nicholas and Rajani meet amid Meghalaya’s mountains and revisit the person who brought them together.
- “Homecoming”: Sunit and Farida—called Sharmila in Scroll’s review—return to Bangladesh, where they met as students before building a life in India. Prime Video describes Farida as 75; Scroll says they moved to Kolkata in 1976.
- “Raah Sangharsh Ki”: Dalit activist Subhadra and Rahul, described in the listing as an ex-IIT graduate and Adivasi advocate, meet through social-welfare work in Madhya Pradesh. Scroll identifies their marriage as intercaste and says they work among Adivasis in central India.
- “Faasley”: Indian Dhanya and Afghan Homayon share a story spanning the USSR and Afghanistan. The catalog emphasizes differences in background, religion, and culture.
- “Love Beyond Labels”: Kolkata trans couple Tista and Dipan are followed in a story that includes Dipan preparing an anniversary gift.
Who is likely to enjoy the series?
Love Storiyaan is a reasonable choice for viewers interested in documentary portraits of relationships shaped by social expectations, especially those who want several perspectives rather than a single couple’s story. Its six-episode breadth lets it represent varied identities and circumstances, but necessarily gives each relationship less room than a documentary focused on one story might.
Rank #3
Viewers looking for extended observation, detailed treatment of social consequences, or a consistently naturalistic documentary style may find the recreations and brisk storytelling limiting. A useful way to judge it against another relationship documentary is to consider how each handles four things: documentary method, depth versus breadth, the specificity of its social context, and whether an affirming tone also addresses continuing risks.
