Longlegs is a horror film written and directed by Osgood Perkins, starring Maika Monroe as FBI agent Lee Harker and Nicolas Cage as a serial killer. Its trailers introduce an unsolved case and a striking “Nine Circles of Hell” book image, but the phrase is a literary allusion—not proof that the film adapts Dante or maps its plot onto his poem.
What the Longlegs trailer shows
The early teaser favors unsettling imagery and atmosphere over a detailed plot explanation. Later trailer coverage gives more of the setup: Harker is an FBI agent investigating an unsolved serial-killer case. One reported image shows her looking at a book titled “Nine Circles of Hell.” These are clues presented in trailer coverage, not a complete account of the film’s story. Reactor’s May 20, 2024 report describes the later trailer’s added context, while Yahoo Entertainment’s May 21, 2024 coverage identifies the film and its central performers.

What does “Nine Circles of Hell” mean?
The phrase points to Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, particularly its first part, Inferno, which depicts a descent through Hell’s circles. Thrill & Kill’s February 3, 2024 coverage connects the phrase in the campaign to Dante. That offers useful literary context, but the available trailer reporting does not establish that Longlegs adapts the poem, that each circle corresponds to an event, or that the book image explains the mystery. Reading Inferno is optional background, not a prerequisite for following the film.
The Hydra line and the film’s occult mood
NEON’s teaser campaign was reported with the line, “You’ve got the teeth of the hydra upon you.” The Hydra is a many-headed creature from Greek mythology, making the wording another ominous mythic reference. The cited coverage does not provide an official explanation of the line or establish exactly what it signifies in the story. It works as atmosphere and a clue to the campaign’s imagery, not a confirmed plot key. Dexerto’s trailer and release-date report also records the campaign tagline.
