Like a Dragon: Yakuza premiered on Prime Video on October 25, 2024. The six-episode Japanese crime drama adapts Sega’s Like a Dragon game franchise, following Kazuma Kiryu and his childhood friends in Kamurocho across 1995 and 2005. It followed Fallout in Amazon’s lineup of video-game adaptations, but the release sequence does not establish that Fallout caused or shaped the Yakuza series.
What is Like a Dragon: Yakuza?
Like a Dragon: Yakuza is the English title of the Japanese series 龍が如く ～Beyond the Game～. Amazon describes it as an original-script crime suspense action drama based on Sega’s Like a Dragon game franchise. The Japanese announcement says 「ゲーム『龍が如く』シリーズを基にオリジナル脚本で制作された」, which translates as “produced with an original script based on the Like a Dragon game series.” Amazon’s announcement identifies Ryoma Takeuchi as Kazuma Kiryu and Masaharu Take as director.
The story is set in Kamurocho and moves between 1995 and 2005, tracking Kiryu’s growth alongside the lives of his childhood friends. The Prime Video listing names Takeuchi, Kento Kaku, and Yuumi Kawai among the cast.
When did the series premiere, and how many episodes are there?
Amazon announced a worldwide Prime Video launch for October 25, 2024. Season 1 has six episodes, released in two groups of three, with one week between the batches. Amazon said the series would be distributed in more than 240 countries and territories, with subtitles and dubbing in more than 30 languages. Those were details of the announced launch; current catalog access and language options may vary by region.

How does it compare with Fallout?
Both Like a Dragon: Yakuza and Fallout are Prime Video adaptations of video-game franchises, but they take different approaches to their source material.
| Series | Source and approach | Setting and genre | Release information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Like a Dragon: Yakuza | Sega’s Like a Dragon game franchise; Amazon describes the series as an original-script adaptation. | Kamurocho; crime suspense action drama across 1995 and 2005. | Premiered October 25, 2024; six episodes released in two batches of three, a week apart. |
| Fallout | Based on the Fallout video-game franchise. | Not stated in the cited Amazon update. | Not stated in the cited Amazon update. |
Amazon’s June 19, 2026 update reported that Fallout’s first two seasons together had surpassed 100 million viewers worldwide. That is Amazon’s reported figure, not an independently audited count. It offers a measure of the scale Amazon attributed to Fallout, but does not show that Fallout’s audience or success caused the Like a Dragon: Yakuza adaptation.

Is the series still “premiering this fall”?
No. “Premiering this fall” described the announced schedule when the series was promoted; the premiere took place on October 25, 2024. Prime Video currently lists it as Season 1 with six episodes. Because the listing is localized, the exact availability and catalog details should be checked in the viewer’s own region.
