Braian Nahuel Paiz, a waiter accused of supplying drugs to Liam Payne, denied giving the singer drugs or taking money from him in a November 2024 interview. His account was an allegation denial, not a court finding. Payne died after falling from a Buenos Aires hotel balcony; the investigation and court proceedings have since advanced beyond the interview.
Who was the man accused of supplying Liam Payne with drugs?
Braian Nahuel Paiz was a waiter whom Argentine investigators accused of supplying drugs to Payne. Calling him Payne’s “drug dealer” as an established fact would overstate the case: the accusation was not a finding of guilt.
In a November 11, 2024 report, the Los Angeles Times said Paiz spoke in an interview with Telefe Noticias. He acknowledged meeting Payne twice but denied supplying him drugs or accepting money from him. Those are Paiz’s statements as reported by the newspaper, not independently established findings.
What did Paiz say about his meetings with Payne?
According to the Los Angeles Times account of the interview, Paiz said he met Payne at the restaurant where he worked and later at a hotel. He also said that on a later occasion they used drugs together: Payne used cocaine, while Paiz used cannabis. These details are Paiz’s account; they are not court findings about what happened.

What did investigators report about Payne’s death?
Payne died on October 16, 2024, after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. The reported autopsy findings attributed his death to multiple traumatic injuries and internal and external bleeding caused by the fall. Prosecutors also reported traces of alcohol, cocaine and a prescribed antidepressant in his system. Toxicology findings do not by themselves identify who supplied a substance or establish legal responsibility for the death.
Prosecutors’ forensic account said Payne showed no protective reflex during the fall and may have been semi- or fully unconscious. As The Guardian reported on November 7, 2024, prosecutors said the lack of a self-preservation reflex, considered alongside other information about his consumption, supported the conclusion that he was not fully conscious or had noticeably reduced or lost consciousness at the time. That qualified assessment does not establish the precise sequence of events or Payne’s state with certainty.

Those figures describe the investigation as reported in 2024, not a final judicial determination.

- November 2024: Prosecutors charged three people in connection with the case. Contemporary coverage described one as a hotel employee and another as a suspected supplier; a charge is an allegation, not proof of guilt.
- February 2025: Argentina’s National Public Prosecutor’s Office said an appeals court confirmed processing and pretrial detention orders against two people accused of supplying drugs and dismissed negligent-homicide charges against three others. The office’s February 21, 2025 account describes those procedural decisions; they are not a final verdict.
- March 26, 2026: iJudicial, the Buenos Aires judiciary’s institutional news service, reported that the two remaining accused, Paiz and Ezequiel David Pereyra, were released pending proceedings under conditions. The report said the prosecution did not assert a causal link between their conduct and Payne’s death. The report of the release describes a change in their pretrial status, not a determination of guilt or innocence.
The sources cited here do not establish a final trial verdict or provide a complete, current docket. The remaining allegations should therefore not be described as proved, dismissed or finally adjudicated.
