A live-action LEGO NINJAGO movie was reported to be in development at Universal Pictures, with Kevin and Dan Hageman attached to write. Deadline reported the project on October 31, 2024, and said its plot was under wraps. That report does not establish a release date or confirm that filming has begun.
What has been reported about the NINJAGO movie?
Deadline reported on October 31, 2024, that Universal was developing a live-action LEGO NINJAGO film and that Kevin and Dan Hageman were attached to script it. The report placed the film among three live-action LEGO projects being developed under the LEGO Group’s relationship with Universal. Its plot was described as under wraps. Deadline’s report, syndicated by Yahoo Entertainment, is the source for those project details.
The status supported by that reporting is “reported in development.” It is not confirmation of a production start, filming, or a scheduled release.
Who are Kevin and Dan Hageman?
Their earlier NINJAGO work
The brothers have an existing connection to the franchise. In a 2019 announcement, Paramount said they wrote and executive-produced LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu and developed the theatrical LEGO Ninjago Movie. Those credits explain why they are a relevant writing team for a new NINJAGO project, but do not establish that the reported film will continue either work’s story or continuity. Paramount’s announcement also said they would develop an animated Star Trek series; StarTrek.com later identified them as developers of Star Trek: Prodigy.

How the film fits the current NINJAGO franchise
LEGO’s January 2026 UK catalogue includes general NINJAGO building sets, including Four Weapons Blacksmith 15th Anniversary (71858), listed for ages 14+. The catalogue does not identify that set as merchandise for the reported film; it is a franchise product, not a confirmed movie tie-in. The catalogue is UK-specific, so its listing should not be treated as evidence of stock or availability in other regions. See LEGO’s 2026 January–June UK catalogue.
LEGO said NINJAGO began in January 2011 and described 2026 as the franchise’s 15th anniversary year. The company also calls it its longest-running homegrown entertainment IP. Those are LEGO’s characterizations of its own franchise. LEGO’s January 14, 2026 anniversary announcement quotes Head of Product Nigel Kong: “As we celebrate 15 years of LEGO NINJAGO, we’re incredibly proud of how this universe has developed and inspired creativity, resilience, and adventure for fans around the world.”
