The Larry David Siri clip is not an Apple commercial. It is a scripted scene from Season 12 of Curb Your Enthusiasm, in which David’s attempts to get directions to a restaurant turn into an increasingly exasperated argument with the iPhone assistant.
What happens in the clip?
Larry asks Siri for directions to a restaurant. When the assistant appears to misunderstand or mishandle the request, he repeats and clarifies it. The interaction keeps going, and his irritation grows far beyond the scale of the problem—a familiar Curb Your Enthusiasm transformation of an ordinary inconvenience into a full-blown dispute.
The comedy comes from the mismatch: Siri responds without emotion, while Larry treats the failed exchange as if the assistant were deliberately refusing to cooperate. The scene is a short gag, not a full account of the episode.

Which episode is it from?
The scene is generally identified as coming from “Atlanta,” the Season 12 premiere of Curb Your Enthusiasm. HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery announced that the show’s 12th and final season premiered on February 4, 2024; the season had 10 episodes. HBO’s announcement confirms the season details, while the episode listing gives “Atlanta” and its air date.

Contemporary coverage described the directions-to-a-restaurant exchange, but the official season announcement does not identify individual scenes. Treat the episode attribution as the commonly reported identification rather than an official scene-by-scene synopsis.
Is it really an Apple or iPhone ad?
No. The clip is part of an HBO comedy series, not an advertisement released by Apple. It has been described online as an “anti-Apple” or “anti-Siri” ad because the scene resembles a comic product demonstration built around an assistant failing at a basic request. That is a description of the joke, not evidence that Apple commissioned or distributed it. Contemporary coverage framed it in those terms, while John Gruber’s commentary used “commercial for Siri” sarcastically in reference to a scene embedded in the show.

Why the joke resonates with iPhone users
Voice assistants can be frustrating when speech is misheard, a place name is ambiguous, background noise interferes, or a request needs more context than the system has. A calm, literal response can make the gap between what a person means and what the assistant understands feel even wider.
Larry’s comic persona supplies the escalation. He will not let a minor annoyance go, keeps arguing with something that cannot be persuaded, and turns a practical task into a matter of principle. The familiar irritation makes the scene relatable; his disproportionate response makes it funny.

Does the clip prove Siri is that bad?
No. It is scripted comedy, not a controlled test of Siri. The scene’s repeated failures are intensified for the gag; they do not show how the assistant performs in ordinary use or establish how it compares with other voice assistants. Siri’s results can vary with factors such as wording, language and region, device and software, permissions, and connection conditions. As BGR’s discussion also cautions, the joke should not be mistaken for a realistic product evaluation.
Not to be confused with Larry David’s other Apple video
David has appeared in a separate Apple-related comedy video: an unaired piece from around WWDC 2014, circulated online in 2021, in which he plays an App Store approval official. That is distinct from the 2024 Siri scene, which comes from Curb Your Enthusiasm. AppleInsider’s report covers the older video.

For the scene in context, look for Season 12 of Curb Your Enthusiasm through HBO/Max or another licensed service or digital storefront in your country. HBO said the season was available on HBO and Max when it premiered; current catalogs, subscription requirements, and purchase options vary by region. Check an authorized listing rather than relying on reposted clips, which may disappear or lack permission.
