Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For sending a prerecorded video to YouTube Live, Wirecast is the better-documented fit. Telestream’s Wirecast 16 guide for Windows explains how to add a local media file as a shot and set it to loop when playback ends. The Larix documentation reviewed describes mobile live capture and YouTube publishing, but does not document selecting a prerecorded file or setting up a playlist. That is a limit of the available documentation, not proof that every Larix version or workaround makes file playback impossible.
Which app fits the job?
Choose based on what you want to send to YouTube:
| Need | Larix Broadcaster | Wirecast |
|---|---|---|
| Send a live phone-camera feed | Documented use case: mobile capture and live streaming, described by Softvelum’s Larix documentation and YouTube’s encoder help. | Desktop production software; Telestream documents it as a YouTube streaming option. |
| Use a local prerecorded video | Not documented in the reviewed official Larix materials. | The Wirecast 16 Windows guide documents adding local media files as shots. |
| Loop a clip when it ends | Not established by the Larix materials reviewed. | The Wirecast guide describes a Loop end behavior that starts the media again when it finishes. |
| Configure YouTube output | Softvelum documents a YouTube publishing setup using connection settings. | Telestream’s YouTube workflow describes selecting YouTube in Output Settings. |
For a single prerecorded clip, Wirecast has the clearest documented workflow among these two products. The comparison is based on vendor and YouTube documentation, not hands-on testing; it does not establish measured reliability, image quality, ease of use, or compatibility with a particular file or computer.
How to send a prerecorded video with Wirecast
The steps below reflect the Windows version 16 guide. Menu names and behavior may differ in macOS or other Wirecast releases, so check the guide for the edition installed on your computer.
- Prepare the YouTube event and stream key. In YouTube Studio, set up the live stream and obtain its stream key using YouTube’s current encoder workflow. Keep the key private. YouTube’s interface, eligibility rules, and accepted ingest settings can change; follow its current guidance.
- Import the video into Wirecast. In Wirecast, browse to or import the local media file, then add it to a shot. The Wirecast 16 Windows guide documents adding media files this way.
- Choose what happens at the end. Open the media file’s settings and set When Finished to Loop to restart the clip after it ends. The Telestream guide says, “Loop causes the media to begin playing again.” The other documented choices include Hold and Remove.
- Configure YouTube as the output. Open Output Settings, select YouTube, and configure the connection using the event and stream details requested by Wirecast. See Telestream’s Wirecast-to-YouTube instructions for its documented destination workflow.
- Check the shot before going live. Confirm that the video decodes and plays, that audio is present at a sensible level, and that framing is correct. Check the live event and output settings before starting the stream. These are prudent preflight checks, not results of product testing.
One clip is not the same as a playlist
The cited Wirecast guide establishes adding a media file to a shot and choosing its end behavior. It does not, by itself, establish unattended sequencing of multiple files as a playlist. Verify that workflow in documentation for your installed version before relying on it for a continuous programme.

What Larix documents for YouTube
Larix is documented as a mobile app for capturing and streaming live video. Softvelum’s documentation provides YouTube publishing setup guidance through connection settings and advises configuring video-plus-audio mode and a suitable bitrate. Use that guidance for a live phone-camera contribution, not as instructions for choosing a prerecorded video file: the reviewed Larix pages do not document that step.
YouTube’s encoder help also lists Wirecast Go as an iOS mobile production app. That listing does not establish that Larix can play local prerecorded files, nor does it describe Wirecast Go as equivalent to the desktop Wirecast 16 Windows workflow above.

If the stream does not behave as expected
- The clip will not play: confirm that the file is available locally and that Wirecast can decode it. The cited guide documents media-file shots but does not guarantee compatibility with every file, codec, or computer.
- The clip stops at the end: check the media file’s When Finished setting and select Loop if you want the same clip to restart.
- YouTube does not receive the output: review the YouTube destination and event connection details in Wirecast, then compare them with the current event settings in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s encoder interface and requirements may change.
- You hear no audio or see the wrong framing: check the media shot and output before going live. The documentation cited here does not establish settings that will work for every source file or production setup.
- You are trying to use Larix with an existing video: the reviewed official Larix materials do not document selecting a local file or making a playlist. Do not treat the documented live-camera setup as proof of prerecorded playout.
Copyright and YouTube rules still apply
Playing a file through live-streaming software does not change the rights or YouTube policies that apply to its content. Use video and audio you are entitled to stream, and check YouTube’s current live-stream requirements and account eligibility before scheduling an event. Neither the software workflow nor a successful connection guarantees that a stream will comply with copyright or other platform rules.
