If your Larix Broadcaster stream looks rotated or sideways, first check Larix’s local preview, then confirm the app’s orientation and live-rotation behavior. Send a short test to YouTube and compare its encoder preview with Larix before going live. That comparison helps identify where the orientation changes; it is a diagnostic check, not a special YouTube rotation-repair tool.
First, find where the rotation appears
- If you are live, stop or pause before changing settings. Do not assume changing orientation mid-broadcast will correct video that has already been sent or recorded.
- Look at Larix’s local preview. If it is already sideways, start with Larix’s video and orientation controls and the phone’s orientation behavior.
- If Larix looks right, send a short test to YouTube. Compare Larix’s preview with the encoder preview in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube recommends testing an encoder setup before a broadcast and provides stream health information.
If the YouTube encoder preview is also rotated, investigate Larix’s orientation configuration. If that preview is correct but playback looks wrong for one viewer, check the stream on another device before concluding that the broadcast itself is rotated. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish a particular player rotation-lock issue as the cause.
Choose portrait or landscape, then set rotation behavior
Larix supports both portrait and landscape output, with live rotation support, according to Softvelum’s Larix Broadcaster documentation. Its controls distinguish the intended orientation from what happens if the device rotates during a broadcast. The exact menu route and labels can vary by operating system and app version; the official material does not establish one tap-by-tap path that applies to every device.
| Setting or choice | Use it when | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Portrait | Your intended video format is vertical. | The output is intended to remain vertical; verify the result in YouTube’s preview. |
| Landscape | Your intended video format is horizontal. | The output is intended to remain horizontal; verify the result in YouTube’s preview. |
| Follow screen rotation | You deliberately want to change orientation while live. | Rotating the device can change the output orientation. |
| Lock while broadcasting | The output must not change as you move or turn the phone. | Live reorientation is constrained until the lock changes or the broadcast ends. |
On Android
Softvelum’s Android listing says Larix supports portrait and landscape rotation, and links to an Android tutorial specifically about image and stream rotation. Because app versions and device settings differ, look in Larix’s video/orientation controls rather than relying on a menu path that may not match your screen. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
On iPhone or iPad
Set the intended orientation in Larix’s video controls, then choose the available live-rotation behavior that matches your plan. Softvelum’s Grove configuration reference names the iOS orientation value as enc[vid][orientation]=landscape and the live-rotation values as off, follow, or lock. These are configuration-reference values, not steps most users need to enter manually. The reference also says omitted encoder values use the values currently defined in Larix’s Video and Audio settings.
Test the outgoing stream in YouTube
- In Larix, confirm the intended orientation and whether rotation should be locked or followed.
- In YouTube’s encoder setup, use the server URL and stream key for the broadcast, then start sending a short test stream. YouTube’s standard workflow is to enter these encoder details and inspect the incoming stream preview and health information.
- Compare the YouTube encoder preview with the Larix preview. YouTube says it detects the encoder settings selected and transcodes streams for viewers, so use the incoming preview to check what YouTube is receiving before starting the intended broadcast.
- If the test is correct, begin the planned broadcast and monitor stream health. If it is not, return to Larix’s orientation controls and test again before going live.
If the stream still appears sideways
- Larix preview is sideways: Check the app’s intended portrait/landscape orientation and the live-rotation setting. Also check whether the operating system or device orientation behavior is affecting the preview.
- Larix preview is correct but YouTube’s encoder preview is sideways: Recheck Larix’s output configuration and send another short test. The change appears to occur between the local preview and YouTube’s incoming encoder preview.
- YouTube’s encoder preview is correct, but one playback device looks wrong: Compare playback on a second device. That can help isolate a viewer-side display difference, but the sources do not confirm a specific YouTube player rotation-lock fix.
- The phone rotates during a fixed-format broadcast: Choose the lock/fixed behavior where offered. Use follow-rotation only when changing orientation live is intentional.
- You want to correct an already-running or archived segment: Stop or pause before changing settings and test the new configuration. Do not expect a setting change to repair video already sent or recorded.
A mount or tripod may hold a phone in position, but it is not a documented fix for an incorrect encoded-orientation setting. Start with the app controls and the test preview.
