Short answer: Larix Broadcaster can send an SRT contribution, but SRT support in Larix does not mean YouTube will accept that connection directly. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS; check your channel’s Live Control Room for its actual ingest options. If it does not offer SRT, use RTMPS from Larix or send SRT to a compatible relay that republishes to YouTube.

Can Larix send SRT directly to YouTube Live?

Do not assume it can. Larix supports SRT publishing, while YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS. Softvelum’s SRT information describes YouTube SRT ingest as upcoming, but availability can vary by rollout or account. The exact endpoint and parameters for your channel are not established by those general pages.

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to access Live Control Room.
  2. Check the stream’s connection or encoder settings for the ingest URL and protocol actually offered to your channel. YouTube explains stream setup and keys in its stream settings guidance.
  3. If the offered endpoint is RTMP/RTMPS only, configure Larix for that supported destination, or use an SRT-capable relay that accepts Larix’s SRT contribution and sends RTMP/RTMPS onward to YouTube.

Never guess an SRT address, port, stream ID, passphrase, or latency value. Obtain them from the receiving server or relay. A YouTube stream key is a credential: keep it private and reset it in Live Control Room if compromised.

Configure Larix SRT to match the receiver

Larix’s SRT mode describes how the phone connects to an SRT receiver; it does not identify that receiver. The receiver’s configuration determines which mode and parameters will work. Softvelum’s Larix feature information lists Push (Caller), Listener, and Rendezvous modes.

Choose the connection mode

  • Push (Caller): commonly fits a phone initiating an outbound connection to a server. Confirm that the receiving server is configured to accept it.
  • Listener: use only when the receiver and network arrangement require Larix to listen for an incoming connection.
  • Rendezvous: use when the receiver’s setup specifies a rendezvous connection.

Do not choose a mode based on the label alone; it must match the receiver’s topology and firewall/network setup.

Enter the endpoint and security parameters

Get the SRT URL or endpoint details from the receiver, including the address, port, and any required stream ID or passphrase. Enter only values the receiver specifies. Larix supports SRT parameters such as stream ID; Softvelum also describes AES encryption support in its SRT product information. Exchange secrets securely, and make sure both ends agree on encryption and credentials.

Set SRT latency for the contribution leg

SRT latency is the recovery window available for retransmission and packet-loss handling. Softvelum’s Larix FAQ describes recovery within the latency parameter period. Set it according to measured jitter, loss, and the receiver’s requirements: more recovery time can improve tolerance of network variation but adds delay. No universal value is established for every phone, route, or receiver.

This is distinct from YouTube’s viewer-facing stream latency setting. Changing SRT latency does not set YouTube’s viewer latency.

Set video bitrate and audio/video mode

Softvelum recommends using video-plus-audio mode, setting a suitable bitrate, and following the destination’s requirements in its Larix documentation. Pick a profile the phone and sustained uplink can maintain; nominal bitrate is not proof that the device will deliver it continuously. Larix’s Android bitrate field accepts a typed value, while iOS offers predefined values, and actual encoding behavior can vary by device.

For the YouTube-facing encoder leg, YouTube’s current H.264 table gives the following guidance. These are YouTube recommendations, not guaranteed Larix output rates, and should not automatically be copied to an SRT contribution leg unless the relay and receiver support them.

720p at 30 fps 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 6 Mbps 17 Mbps

The figures are from YouTube Help’s current encoder guidance, accessed in 2026; they are not a promise of delivery over a particular connection. YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval with a maximum of four seconds. Listed audio choices are AAC or MP3, and YouTube recommends RTMPS. Confirm that the encoder and any relay support the settings you select.

Check the YouTube-facing stream before leaving it unattended

  1. Use Live Control Room to confirm the destination URL, protocol, and stream key. Treat the key as a secret.
  2. Choose resolution and frame rate conservatively for the sustained uplink and device, rather than the highest available setting.
  3. Test with representative motion and audio, then inspect YouTube’s preview and stream health before relying on the feed. YouTube’s encoder guidance specifically says to test before going live.
  4. Leave network headroom. YouTube’s network recommendations suggest about 20% bandwidth above the stream’s needs.
  5. Watch both the Larix connection and the YouTube-facing output. With a relay, monitor the contribution and publishing legs separately so you can identify where a failure occurs.

What 24/7 operation requires beyond SRT settings

An always-on stream is an operational design, not a setting in Larix. A phone must remain powered, cool enough to encode, connected to a stable uplink, and able to keep Larix active through the operating system’s background and network behavior. Test the actual device over an extended run and after interruptions. Provide power and network failover appropriate to your setup, and plan how someone will notice and respond to a failure.

  • BLACKMAGIC CLOUD STREAMING SUPPORT – Receive streams distributed via Blackmagic Cloud, enabling cloud-based remote production workflows and multi-location live events without the cost of dedicated broadcast circuits.

Larix exposes a reconnect timeout and a network-presence option. The FAQ also lists iOS-only no-network reconnect and idle/unsent buffer thresholds. These controls can shape reconnection behavior; they do not guarantee unattended 24/7 uptime. SRT can help recover from packet loss within its configured window, but it does not prevent power loss, thermal throttling, app suspension, a prolonged outage, or a failure at YouTube or a relay.

Troubleshoot common connection and continuity problems

  • Larix connects, but YouTube receives nothing: verify whether the destination is actually an SRT receiver. If YouTube Live Control Room offers RTMP/RTMPS only, send Larix to that supported endpoint or use a compatible relay to republish.
  • SRT connection fails immediately: check the receiver’s address and port, the selected mode, firewall/NAT rules, and any stream ID or passphrase. Ask the receiver to confirm its listener configuration rather than substituting guessed values.
  • Video stutters or drops under motion: lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to a sustainable profile; check sustained upload and leave the recommended network headroom. Test again with representative movement.
  • Picture arrives but audio does not: confirm Larix is using video-plus-audio mode and that audio format and receiver settings are compatible.
  • Stream stops after the phone is left alone: investigate power, heat, operating-system background restrictions, network changes, and Larix reconnect settings. A reconnect control cannot overcome every device or infrastructure failure.
  • YouTube reports poor stream health: inspect the YouTube-facing encoder settings and connection separately from SRT contribution settings; a relay may introduce a second point of failure or a mismatch in output configuration.

Or let it run in the cloud
