The clip circulating online shows Lara Trump singing Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” at Trump National Golf Club Westchester. It was posted on X by PatriotTakes on August 11, 2025, and covered by news outlets the following day. Reporting does not establish when the performance was filmed, so its online resurfacing should not be mistaken for proof that it was recorded in August 2025.
What the resurfaced video shows
The Daily Beast described the footage as a ballroom performance before a seated audience at Trump National Golf Club Westchester. Hindustan Times reported on the clip on August 12, 2025; The Daily Beast said PatriotTakes had posted it to X on August 11. Neither account establishes the exact date of the performance. The Daily Beast’s account and Hindustan Times’ report identify the clip and setting.

Online reactions to a performance are not a reliable measure of vocal quality. The available reports do not establish view counts or provide a verified statement from someone at the event about the performance.
It is different from the 2023 Sky News Australia clip
This golf-club video is not the same footage as a 2023 clip of Lara Trump singing “I Won’t Back Down” during a Sky News Australia appearance. A Snopes fact-check result syndicated by Yahoo said the audio in that earlier circulating version had been edited using Melodyne. That report concerns the 2023 clip; it is not a finding about the 2025 golf-club footage. The syndicated fact-check result and The Daily Beast’s report distinguish the material.

Lara Trump released her own cover in 2023
Lara Trump released a cover of “I Won’t Back Down” in fall 2023. The Daily Beast reported that it debuted at number six on Billboard’s Country Digital Song Sales chart; its article does not give a dated chart-week issue, so the position should be understood as the outlet’s report rather than a claim tied here to a particular week. The Daily Beast’s coverage of the release reports the chart position.
Other music releases provide background but are separate from the resurfaced performance. The Independent reported that “Anything Is Possible” was among Lara Trump’s original songs and that “Hero,” featuring Madeline Jaymes, was released in May 2024; the music video followed later that summer. The Independent’s coverage discusses those releases.
The Tom Petty original and the family’s 2020 statement
Tom Petty’s original “I Won’t Back Down” appears on his 1989 album Full Moon Fever as track two. Petty’s official store listing identifies the track; the vinyl was shown as sold out when that page was accessed, and availability can change.
There is also a separate history involving the song’s use at a Trump campaign rally in 2020. The Daily Beast reproduced a statement attributed to Petty’s family: “Trump was in no way authorized to use this song to further a campaign that leaves too many Americans and common sense behind.” That statement concerned campaign use in 2020; it does not establish the family’s view of Lara Trump’s later cover or golf-club performance. The Daily Beast’s account gives the context.

A separate false quote about Celine Dion
A 2024 viral claim falsely attributed a comment about Celine Dion and “My Heart Will Go On” to Lara Trump. FactCheck.org traced the quote to a satirical X account and reported that an RNC spokesperson said Lara Trump did not make it. The claim is unrelated to the golf-club singing footage. FactCheck.org’s fact-check explains the false attribution.
