Spoilers for Landman Season 1, Episode 6, “Beware The Second Beating.” Tommy’s retaliation against the men who attacked Cooper does not settle the danger. In the closing scene, he tells Dale he needs to get his son away before somebody kills him—but Cooper’s departure is not shown.
What happens at the end of Landman Episode 6?
After learning that Manuel and Antonio were involved in Cooper’s beating, Tommy rejects Cooper’s hesitation about his father stepping in. He says intervention is part of his responsibility as the oil company’s general manager, then goes with Dale, Boss and others to the men’s trailer. Tommy’s group assaults them and orders them to leave, warning them not to return. It is revenge and a threat, not a formal resolution of the attack.

On the drive home, Tommy tells Dale, “I’ve gotta get my boy out of here before somebody kills him,” then adds, “He ain’t mean enough for this place.” The last lines reveal that Tommy does not believe the retaliation has made Cooper safe. He wants to remove his son from the violent oil-patch environment.
Why does Tommy want to get Cooper out of there?
Tommy sees Cooper as poorly suited to a world where violence and toughness are treated as ordinary ways to settle disputes. His comment that Cooper “ain’t mean enough” is less a judgment of his son than an expression of fear: Tommy believes this place could kill him. His reaction also exposes a conflict in Tommy’s roles. He first justifies intervening as a general manager, but the drive-home conversation is plainly a father’s response to the danger facing his child.

The title, “Beware The Second Beating,” resonates with both the attack on Cooper and Tommy’s retaliatory violence. Tommy answers one beating with another, hoping force will protect Cooper and deter future attacks. Yet the final conversation suggests that using the same brutal rules has not made the environment safe.
Does Cooper leave the oil patch?
No departure is shown in this episode. Tommy says he needs to get Cooper out, but the episode ends before he carries out that intention or establishes what happens next. The ending points to a possible plan, not a confirmed outcome.
