Qué determinó el médico forense
E! News atribuyó a la Oficina del Médico Forense Jefe esta formulación: “asphyxia due to obstruction of airway by food bolus complicating acute alcohol intoxication”. En español, significa asfixia por una obstrucción de la vía aérea causada por un bolo alimenticio, con intoxicación aguda por alcohol como factor complicante. La oficina también clasificó la muerte como accidental.
La determinación se conoce por cobertura periodística que cita a la oficina; no se dispone aquí de un informe de autopsia primario accesible. No se han establecido públicamente en estas fuentes más detalles sobre el episodio.
Por qué se habló primero de un ataque al corazón
El 24 de diciembre de 2022, ABC News anunció inicialmente a su personal que Tejera había sufrido un ataque al corazón. Esa versión no es la causa final atribuida al médico forense. El Washington Post publicó un obituario el 28 de diciembre y señala que corrigió la causa de muerte después de conocer la nueva determinación forense.

Tejera fue productor ejecutivo del programa America with Jorge Ramos, de Fusion, y más tarde de This Week, de ABC News. ABC lo describió como nativo de Miami, graduado de Dartmouth en 2007 y con estudios de periodismo en Columbia.
