Paramount+ released the official trailer for Knuckles on February 8, 2024. The six-episode live-action series follows Idris Elba’s Knuckles as he agrees to train Wade Whipple, played by Adam Pally, and is set between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
What the Knuckles trailer reveals
The trailer introduces the premise of the spinoff: Knuckles takes Wade on as his protégé and trains him in the ways of the echidna warrior. Paramount describes the show as a six-episode live-action event series. Paramount+’s February 8, 2024 announcement confirms the series format, central pairing, and trailer release.
When does Knuckles take place?
Paramount places the series in the story timeline between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3. It is a bridge in the film franchise’s chronology, rather than a story set after the third film.
Do Sonic and Tails appear?
Yes. Ben Schwartz returns as Sonic and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, both billed as special guest stars. The announcement also names Tika Sumpter as Maddie and Rory McCann among the guest cast.

Is Rory McCann playing a Robotnik acolyte?
Paramount’s announcement confirms McCann is in the guest cast but does not identify his character as a “Robotnik acolyte.” That label should not be treated as confirmed by the announcement; it is not a role description Paramount provides there.
Where and when was Knuckles released?
Paramount’s original schedule said all six episodes would stream on Paramount+ in the United States and Canada on April 26, 2024, and in additional Paramount+ territories on April 27. It also listed a later release in Japan. For the Nordics, the Netherlands, Spain, and Central and Eastern Europe, the announcement named SkyShowtime. Those are historical launch plans, not confirmation that the series is currently available in a particular service’s catalog or territory.

How many people watched Knuckles?
In a May 2, 2024 announcement, Paramount+ reported that Knuckles streamed more than 4 million hours globally over its premiere weekend, calling it the service’s most-watched original series premiere at the time. This is Paramount’s company-reported figure, not an independently verified audience measurement. Jeff Grossman, Paramount+ Executive Vice President of Programming, said: “The Sonic the Hedgehog fans came out in full-force.” Paramount+’s May 2 announcement gives the figure and quote.
