The reported discussions about King Charles III visiting Prince Harry were followed by a confirmed meeting: the king and Queen Camilla hosted Harry, Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet at Highgrove House on July 10, 2026. Buckingham Palace described it as a private family occasion. It was a significant contact, but there is no public account of what was discussed or evidence that the family rift has been resolved.
What happened at Highgrove?
Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla met Harry, Meghan and their children, Archie and Lilibet, at Highgrove House, the royal country estate west of London. The meeting took place on Friday, July 10, 2026, while Harry was in the UK for charity appearances earlier that week. The Associated Press reported the palace confirmation.
ABC News Australia reported that the palace called it a “private family occasion.” No images were publicly released, and the meeting was not presented as an official public engagement.
How the meeting fit into the timeline
A brief meeting before the visit
Harry and Charles had met briefly for tea in London in September, before the July Highgrove meeting, according to AP. It was their first meeting in well over a year. The July gathering followed a longer period of strained relations, but the private nature of both contacts leaves their substance unknown. AP’s report on the earlier tea and family context.

Uncertainty over the visit
In the run-up to the trip, reporting described uncertainty over whether Harry would see his father and whether Meghan and the children would accompany him. AP and ABC reported that Harry was initially invited to stay at Buckingham Palace, but the offer was later withdrawn after he did not accept in time. ABC also reported that his request for taxpayer-funded police protection for the visit was rejected. Those reports establish logistical disputes, not the private reasons behind them or their effect on the family relationship.
AP noted that the opportunity for time together was limited by the king’s busy schedule and the children’s school calendar in California. The children had last seen their grandfather during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022, AP reported.

Does this mean Charles and Harry are reconciled?
No public evidence establishes that the rift is over. Harry has said he wants reconciliation. In remarks to the BBC, quoted in The Washington Post’s AP-republished report, he said: “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.” That expresses Harry’s position; it does not show that other family members share it or that reconciliation is complete.
The Highgrove meeting was private, and no public account of its conversation has been released. ABC reported that there were no plans for Harry to meet his brother, the Prince of Wales, during that UK trip. The meeting therefore confirms contact with the king and queen, not a broader family reunion.

What the later royal-status clarification said
A September 2026 letter sent on the king’s behalf reiterated that Harry and Meghan remained non-working members of the royal family and would continue not to use their HRH titles. It said their charity work would be undertaken in a private capacity and that operational security decisions belonged to the relevant police agencies. AP reported on the letter and its clarification of status and security responsibility. It addressed their public and institutional status; it does not reveal what was said at Highgrove.
