On 20 December 2024, Sky News reported that palace sources expected King Charles’s cancer treatment to continue into 2025. The report attributed that update to unnamed palace sources; it was not a public Palace statement confirming the treatment timeline.
What was reported on 20 December 2024
Sky News said palace sources described the King’s treatment as moving in a positive direction and said the treatment cycle would continue into the next year. The report also noted that the cancer type and specific treatment had not been disclosed. Read Sky News’s 20 December 2024 report.
What the Palace had publicly disclosed
In its statement on 5 February 2024, Buckingham Palace said diagnostic tests had identified “a form of cancer” during a hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, and that regular treatment had begun. The statement did not identify the cancer or describe the treatment regimen. Read the Palace statement.
The Palace also said the King would postpone public-facing duties during treatment, while continuing State business and official paperwork as usual. Those are distinct parts of his role: stepping back from public engagements did not mean that he had stopped carrying out State work.

On 12 December 2025, Marie Claire reported that a King’s spokesperson said treatment would continue, but its schedule could be reduced in the New Year. That is a dated later report about a possible change in schedule, not confirmation of the King’s exact treatment status today. Read Marie Claire’s 12 December 2025 report.
The 2024 “New Year” in Sky News’s headline meant the transition from 2024 to 2025. The available reports here do not establish the King’s precise treatment schedule as of October 2026.
