Contemporary reports called it their first joint public appearance after that televised update. “First” refers to the period after that specific address—not to their latest appearance today.
Where and why the King and Queen appeared together
The King and Queen hosted a reception at St James’s Palace in London for the company of HMS Prince of Wales and their families. The event celebrated the ship’s return and recognized the sailors and relatives connected with its service, according to Entertainment Daily’s contemporary report.
Reports differ on the length of the ship’s preceding deployment: Entertainment Daily described it as eight months, while Royal Central called it a six-month Indo-Pacific deployment. Without a primary naval record to settle that discrepancy, the duration is best left unspecified.
What Charles had said about his cancer treatment
The reception followed a recorded address broadcast on Channel 4 as part of Stand Up To Cancer 2025. Entertainment Daily reproduced the King’s statement that, thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and following doctors’ orders, his treatment schedule “can be reduced in the new year.” The reported wording describes a planned reduction; it does not say that treatment had ended. The original broadcast or a direct transcript is not available in the cited reporting, so the statement is presented as reproduced by that outlet.

That update is a dated account of what Charles said in 2025, not a description of his current medical status. It should not be read as a later announcement about whether treatment continued or concluded.
What naval officers said about the reception
Royal Central reported comments from two officers who attended. Commander Tom Leonard said the King asked about how sailors and their families felt when they returned home and about difficulties they faced. Captain Ben Power said Camilla wanted to understand challenges for the ship’s company and the support available to families at home. These are the officers’ reported impressions of the conversations, rather than a transcript of the royal couple’s remarks.

Why “first joint appearance” needs a date
The phrase describes the couple’s first joint public appearance after the King’s televised cancer-treatment update the previous week, as contemporary coverage framed the 18 December reception. It does not mean the couple have not appeared together since: the Royal Family’s official website records joint public activity later in 2026. The reception is therefore a specific moment in the timeline, not a current claim about their most recent appearance.
