King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted the Princess of Wales at a Cancer Research UK anniversary reception at St James’s Palace, according to a 2026 report by Town & Country. The report describes an event marking the charity’s 125th anniversary—not a Sandringham gathering—and does not establish that the charity is Kate Middleton’s “close charity.”
What happened at the reception?
Town & Country reported that King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted a reception at St James’s Palace to mark Cancer Research UK’s 125th anniversary. The Princess of Wales attended, as did the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. The gathering brought the royals together with the charity’s clinicians, researchers, volunteers and partners. Read the Town & Country report.
Was the event at Sandringham?
The available event report places the reception at St James’s Palace, not Sandringham. It does not corroborate the Sandringham setting in the original headline. Nor does it call Cancer Research UK Kate Middleton’s “close charity.” Those descriptions should not be treated as established facts on the basis of this report.
Why was Cancer Research UK marking an anniversary?
The reception marked Cancer Research UK’s 125th anniversary, as reported by Town & Country in 2026. The report says the programme was to include immersive installations about the charity’s work and the impact of technology on cancer research. It does not provide a primary source for the anniversary’s underlying founding date or further details about the installations.

What is King Charles’s connection to the charity?
Town & Country reported that King Charles has been Cancer Research UK’s Patron since 2024, and that his appointment was announced in April of that year. The report identifies his patronage as context for his role as host.
What is known about the royals’ health?
The 2026 Town & Country report stated that both King Charles and the Princess of Wales received treatment for undisclosed forms of cancer in 2024. It also said the Princess had shared that she was in remission and that the King had said his treatment would be “reduced in the new year.” These are details recorded in that report, not a current medical update; neither the report nor the event description establishes further information about their diagnoses or prognosis.
