The controversy was not just a later label. Smith recalled death threats around the film’s original reception and said metal detectors were installed at the Palais for the first time. Why is Dogma back in the conversation?
Dogma had been difficult to find for years. The Independent reported in November 2025 that the film had been out of print on DVD and Blu-ray and historically unavailable to stream or own digitally amid rights issues. The same report covered a UK cinema re-release after Smith regained the rights. He described its central question as “how to be Christian when you’re no longer Christian?” and said the devil would also feature.
