Kevin Smith’s Dogma anniversary plans brought the 1999 film back to theaters in a 4K restoration, with Smith-hosted Q&A screenings and home-video editions. He also said in May 2025 that he had been writing a sequel—but he did not announce a production start, release date or confirmed returning cast.
What was planned for Dogma’s 25th anniversary?
The official Dogma film site described the theatrical event as “DOGMA: Resurrected, A 25th Anniversary Celebration!” The film was remastered in 4K for the anniversary return, released theatrically on June 5, 2025, in collaboration with Iconic Events. AMC supported a national tour of screenings with Smith-hosted Q&As.
Smith also presented a restored Dogma at Cannes Classics in 2025. In a Festival de Cannes interview published May 22, 2025, he said he was touring the United States with the film, watching it with audiences and taking questions afterward.
Is Dogma coming back to theaters?
The official site currently announces a U.S. 4DX theatrical return in September, with exclusive Q&A content from the tour. Because the page’s announcement does not provide a durable schedule, check its current ticket links for dates, participating theaters and availability rather than relying on old showtimes.

Is Kevin Smith making Dogma 2?
Smith said in the May 22, 2025 Cannes interview, “I’m writing the sequel. I’ve been writing it for the last six months.” He described its central question as “how to be Christian when you’re no longer Christian?” and said, “The film will also be about the devil.”
Those remarks establish that Smith said he was writing the story; they do not establish that a script is complete or that the film has entered production. He gave no release schedule in the interview.

Dogma was released in 1999. Its restored 2025 screenings gave audiences a theatrical way to revisit it, while Smith’s post-screening Q&As made the revival an event as well as a re-release. His sequel comments point to a possible continuation focused on faith and the devil, but remain statements about writing intent rather than a production announcement.
