The first trailer for Kevin Costner’s Western saga Horizon: An American Saga was reported on February 26, 2024. Costner called the project “something I’ve been thinking about for a long time.” Though it was initially framed as a two-chapter release, he told the Associated Press he had scripts ready for Chapters Three and Four as well.

ABC News reported the first trailer’s arrival on February 26, 2024, quoting Costner’s description of the project as “something I’ve been thinking about for a long time.” ABC News’ trailer report identifies Costner as the film’s actor-director.
The Festival de Cannes later published an official trailer page on May 8, 2024. The festival had announced that Chapter One would have its out-of-competition world premiere at Cannes on May 19. Cannes’ trailer page and premiere announcement document those festival dates.
What is Horizon: An American Saga about?
The official Cannes background document describes the saga as chronicling “a multi-faceted, years-long span of pre-and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West.” Costner directs and stars in the project. Is Horizon a two-part movie?
The initial 2024 release plan presented the story as two chapters, but “two-part” does not capture the full scope Costner described. In an Associated Press interview at Cannes, he said he had scripts ready for Chapters Three and Four and hoped to make more. AP reported that Chapter One runs three hours. The AP interview covers the runtime and Costner’s plans for a larger saga.
What happened to Chapter Two’s release date?
The original U.S. theatrical plan scheduled Chapter One for June 28, 2024, and Chapter Two for August 16, 2024. New Line Cinema later pulled Chapter Two from the August date. A spokesperson said the intention was to give audiences more opportunity to discover the first film, including through PVOD and Max. ABC News’ report on the date change and AP’s Cannes interview document the original plan and subsequent change.

Chapter Two was subsequently announced for an out-of-competition world-premiere screening at the Venice Film Festival on September 7, 2024. That announcement concerns a festival screening, not a general theatrical release or present-day streaming availability. The Venice Biennale announcement gives the screening date.

Warner Bros. Discovery announced that Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 would begin streaming on Max in the United States on August 23, 2024. That dated announcement establishes the planned streaming debut, but not whether the film is currently in Max’s catalog or available in any particular region. Check Max’s current listings for present availability. Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement gives the 2024 streaming date.
