Keri Russell says The Diplomat Season 4 picks up exactly where Season 3 left off. In an interview with Extra published October 5, 2026, Russell called the new season “so fun” and said she loves where it ends. Netflix lists October 15, 2026, as the series’ return date.

Russell’s update is chiefly about continuity and the changing relationship between Kate Wyler and her husband, Hal. “This season is so fun and just continues exactly where we left off and I love where it ends, too,” she told Extra’s Mona Kosar Abdi.

Netflix’s trailer coverage describes the season as built around Kate, Hal, Grace and Todd. Creator, showrunner and executive producer Debora Cahn said, “They’re two couples strapped together in one car on a crumbling roller coaster.”
What Rufus Sewell says about the Season 3 cliffhanger
Sewell told Extra that Season 3’s cliffhanger appears to show Hal doing something dangerous and duplicitous while Kate is onto him. He said the start of Season 4 gives viewers more of the reasons behind Hal’s actions. That is Sewell’s description of the setup, not a full account of what happens next.

Who is joining the regular cast?
Netflix Tudum reports that Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford have been promoted to series regulars for Season 4. Nana Mensah, who plays White House chief of staff Billie Appiah, is also a series regular. Netflix identifies Russell as Kate, Sewell as Hal, Janney as Grace and Whitford as Todd.
