What Kate Hudson said about gaining weight
“I put on 15 pounds, just to be nice and soft,” Hudson told W about her preparation for the film. She also said she was not watching what she ate, was not working out much, and let herself be during the holiday period. Her comments describe her personal approach for this role, not a recommended or medically supervised weight-change plan.

Why the role called for a different look
Hudson plays Claire Sardina in Song Sung Blue, a drama about Mike and Claire Sardina and the Neil Diamond tribute act they formed, Lightning and Thunder. Focus Features’ film page describes two struggling musicians who form a Neil Diamond tribute band; its production feature explains that the film dramatizes the Sardinas’ real-life story and adapts the 2008 documentary of the same name. CBS also identifies Hudson and Hugh Jackman as playing Claire and Mike Sardina in its interview listing.
Hudson’s “nice and soft” remark is the stated reason behind the gain. The available account does not specify a precise start or end date for the change, nor does it provide independent weight records.
