Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams hairstyle pairs very dark hair and a long, French-style fringe with two braided pigtails. Season 1 added clipped-in extensions for length and fullness; Season 2 kept the signature braids, opened the fringe slightly and used more extensions. The milkmaid updo seen at the Rave’N and the later gala updo are event-specific variations, not Wednesday’s everyday style.
What makes Wednesday’s hairstyle recognizable?
The silhouette comes from four elements: dark hair, a long fringe, face-framing pieces near the cheekbones and two braids. Hair and makeup designer Tara McDonald described the fringe as a “French girl fringe,” saying it gave Wednesday an effortless, chic look. The braid length and fullness seen on screen were partly created for production. McDonald said the Season 1 team switched to three clipped-in wefts on each side after an early scene, adjusting the hairpieces to make the braids look more natural. For Season 2, artist Nirvana Jalalvand added more wefts because Ortega’s natural hair was shorter. Those choices explain the screen look; they do not mean extensions are necessary to try a similar style.

How to adapt Wednesday’s braids and bangs
Start with the shape rather than trying to reproduce every production detail: a fringe, two braids and pieces that frame the face. You can adapt the braid length to your own hair; the on-screen use of extensions establishes how the production achieved its look, not a requirement for recreating the silhouette.
- Choose your version of the fringe. A longer, parted or swept fringe can suggest the face-framing effect without cutting bangs. The Season 2 version was opened slightly compared with Season 1.
- Divide the hair into two sections and braid each side. Work with the length and texture you have. If your hair is too short to braid comfortably, you can leave the braids shorter or try clip-in options rather than treating extensions as essential.
- Shape the front pieces. Leave out small sections near the face if you want the cheekbone-framing outline. Use temporary styling to approximate the look instead of dyeing your hair or cutting bangs to match Ortega.
- Secure loose braid sections only if needed. Jalalvand named Pattern Beauty Edge Control for securing tucked sections and said she used a small crochet hook to tuck a section back into place. The sources document production techniques and the artists’ reported tools, not a tested tutorial for every hair type. Treat them as options to adapt rather than instructions that will work identically for everyone.

Why Ortega’s hair transformation was a personal choice
Ortega has said changing her hair for the role encouraged her to be more adventurous and creative with it. That describes her own experience, not a reason readers need to make a permanent change.
