Everett “Kenny” Law, the Virginia distiller and familiar face from Discovery’s Moonshiners, died on January 14, 2025, at age 68. Law’s Choice Distillery announced his death the following day, saying he died peacefully surrounded by loved ones. His cousin and longtime distilling partner, Henry Law, later said Kenny had been dealing with heart problems, diabetes and a blood infection. No official death certificate, coroner’s statement or family medical statement establishing one definitive cause of death has been publicly located.
What happened to Kenny Law?
Kenny Law died in Virginia on January 14, 2025. He was 68. Law’s Choice Distillery announced the news on January 15, and the report was subsequently covered by TMZ and regional news outlets.
The announcement described his death as peaceful and said that he was surrounded by loved ones. TMZ reported that Henry Law said Kenny had suffered a heart attack in 2024 and had diabetes. Henry also said Kenny spent approximately a month in the hospital with a blood infection before his death.
Those health details came from Henry’s account to reporters. A regional follow-up attributed to Henry Lee Law said Kenny’s heart problems, diabetes and blood infection ultimately overwhelmed his body. However, no publicly available official record located for this article identifies a single confirmed cause of death. It would therefore be inaccurate to say that Kenny died from diabetes, a heart attack or a blood infection alone.

Kenny Law’s connection to Moonshiners
Law was known to television viewers as a cast member and moonshining personality on Discovery’s Moonshiners. He was not presented as the show’s sole star or lead. His on-screen identity was closely tied to his cousin Henry Law, with whom he made and ran traditional Virginia moonshine before the pair became associated with the legal spirits business Law’s Choice Distillery.
Discovery’s official cast biography describes Kenny as a Franklin County, Virginia, moonshiner who learned the family trade alongside Henry under the guidance of his uncle Amos Law. The network’s biography says the family’s earlier activities included illegal moonshining and that Kenny served federal prison after choosing imprisonment rather than informing on other moonshiners. That account comes from Discovery’s character biography; it should not be treated as an independently court-verified account without separate legal records.
Discovery’s promotional material for the show’s ninth-season era also identified Kenny and Henry as outlaw shiners who joined Tickle to build a still site. The show is best described as a Discovery reality or docudrama series centered on Appalachian moonshining traditions, rather than as a conventional documentary.
He and Henry Law were cousins, not brothers
One detail emphasized in coverage after Kenny’s death is the family relationship between the two men. Kenny and Henry Law were first cousins, not brothers. Henry nevertheless described their bond as closer than that of brothers, reflecting how closely they worked together for much of their lives.

Discovery identifies Amos Law as Kenny’s uncle and Henry’s father. Their story belongs to a multigenerational Franklin County distilling family, making the Law name part of the region’s broader moonshine history as well as the television series’ cast.
From illicit moonshine to legal spirits
Before and alongside their television appearances, Kenny and Henry operated Law’s Choice Distillery in Rocky Mount, Virginia. A 2023 regional newspaper profile described them as co-owners and reported that their legal spirits were marketed under the name Hell’s Holler.
The same interview-based profile said Kenny began making moonshine at 16. It also described the legal family recipes as using wheat, rye, malted barley and cane. These details come from regional reporting and an interview rather than from Discovery’s official biography, but they help explain the transition at the center of Kenny’s public story: from a family tradition conducted outside the law to a licensed distilling business.
That distinction matters. The earlier family activity was described as illicit or outlaw moonshining, while Law’s Choice Distillery was a legal spirits operation. Kenny’s television fame came from the contrast between those two worlds—the inherited knowledge of traditional distilling and the modern legal business built around it.

Kenny Law’s legacy extends beyond television. He represented Franklin County’s long-running moonshine tradition while also participating in its legal distilling future. For viewers, Kenny was recognizable for the practical knowledge and family history he brought to Moonshiners. For the region, he was part of a real distilling lineage that moved between secrecy, prosecution, entertainment and licensed commerce. His partnership with Henry was central to both stories.
